Hi Vladmaz,
My words, you have had a poor customer experience, and we owe you an apology. There is no way that you should be having items charged up for being reweighed at a higher weight than our own counter weighed the item in the first place.
As for overall prices in Canada: Canada is one of the most, if not the most, competitive shipping market in the world. That means we have to be cost competitive, and stand to lose our business to multi-national, national, and local competitors if we are not price competitive as well. We have an efficient system and we believe we have the best prices offered in the country. Other countries have different cost realities: the country may be smaller, allowing for lower domestic rates; labour may be less expensive, and this is a labour intensive business; or service standards or service features (e.g. tracking etc.) may not be the same.
A competitive market also drives industry standards and norms. It is standard practice in the shipping industry to price to the next weight break if the weight of an item crosses into the subsequent threshold. An item that weighs 501 grams is rightly priced in the >500g threshold e.g. at up to 1 kg.
We value your business and believe we can earn it. To that end, we will follow up on your poor service experience regarding items that were reweighed and returned to you. That should not have happened.
Thanks for your note on your experience with us, and I hope we can keep you as a satisfied Canada Post customer.
Regards,
- John
