What can be done about CP outlet employees that do not understand the polices? Is there something online on their computers that we can tell them to look at regarding polices?

In particular - the Small Packet vs. Letterpost (for insurance reasons) dilema. and:

The controversy about sending non-paper items via lettermail as long as they fit within size and weight restrictions?

I wanted to let everyone at Canada Post know what a wonderful job they are doing for my business. I sell high-end products and was sending 100% of my products by FedEx up to a couple of years ago. Now, between Canada Post and EBay, my business is growing very well, thank you. In answer to those people who are wondering why it's cheaper to send to the US than across Canada, it's simple. We only pay for the service up to the closest US distribution center. That country happens to be much bigger and so they always have truckloads of goods going from one place to another. If we wanted our prices to be lower within Canada, we'd simply have to accept much longer deliveries while waiting for a container to be loaded from Calgary to Charlottetown, for instance. Simple logic. Once again, thanks to Canada Post for all new and excellent services. By the way, my FedEx business is now ZERO.

online-software-sales: The green stickers are available online through CP's OBC... click on 'Order Supplies'.
They are hard to find in their catalogue--all items are!-- (but it's going to be redesigned, right Kim?). Just do a search for 'green' and you will find them.

I agree with the person who commented about the "levels" at which rates go up.

In Canada, if my 499 gram package goes up to 501 grams, I have to pay a huge increase in the air mail or small packet rate. If you check on line, other countries have small packet rates with 100 gram increments. If the rate step is from 500 to 600, the increase in price is not so severe.

There was a question/comment from momof2boys0205 regarding high shipping rates and do we offer discounts.

To answer this -- any small business customer can access our VentureOne program and receive 5% off their shipping. If you send more than 750 items a year, you can sign a contract with Canada Post for additional discounts.

Jakeeangel asked why our tracking on US-bound items was not as good as tracking within the US on the USPS site.

Our agreement with the USPS provides Canada Post with the delivery scan, but not any intermediate scans that they may be undertaking. Their system communicates with our system on a daily basis. This is consistent with international post office policies. It does mean that they may have domestic scans that are not provided to us, and it also means that they may sweep their own data more frequently than they provide it to us. Therefore on the domestic USPS site, you may see more scans and you may see updates more often than daily.

There was also a question about why we do not provide scans on small packets to the US or international.

Small packet is an excellently priced postal product. Scans cost money, and it is part of the product design to be a low cost service. Adding scans would change the price. Scans are available on other services such as Xpresspost, ...should you require them.

Thanks,

- Kim

Comment to rshousha, who said "If we wanted our prices to be lower within Canada, we'd simply have to accept much longer deliveries while waiting for a container to be loaded from Calgary to Charlottetown, for instance. Simple logic."

I seriously doubt that. Your explanation might explain Charlottetown to Calgary - it doesn't explain Toronto to Vancouver.

I have not had any problem with the lettermail rates when sending something other than paper - I weigh the item at home, determine how much postage is needed and I buy stamps and stick them on myself. I avoid the staff at the post office and the hassle.

For expedited parcel to the U.S. - I use Federal Express. They are more reliable and their price is often better than Canada Post.

Hi there.

Can Canada Post provide a Shipping Method/Policy LINK to all of us eBay Sellers that ship VIA Canada Post?

We can cut and paste this link into our listings so buyers are aware of what they are paying for?

Too many buyers as well as Paypal don't get how expensive tracking numbers are with Canada Post.

I've had too may lost parcels and had to refund too many buyers due to no tracking.

Thank you

Heronbird...it is because the Canada Post employees do all the work vs. get it to the border or onto a plane and then the destination postal staff take over...
We are paying for the CP employees salaries...lol
It's a dog's life for sure.

Small packet is an excellently priced postal product.

really?? It appears that most people here are disagreeing with that.

Having the ability to purchase tracking/DC for a small extra amount would be an excellent solution to this issue.

Hello Kim

What ever happened to the great poly shipping bags that Canada Post had.

These were branded with the ebay powerseller logo. They were wonderul and all of a sudden they disappeared.

Does Canada Post have any pull in having the Government make changes and increase the value $ amount for importing into Canada?

Right now, anything valued over $20 CAD seems to get taxed/duty. In contrast, USA allows a much higher value, up to $200 USD I heard!

And people wonder why there's cross-border smuggling!?!]:)

So a question we get a lot is -- why is it cheaper to mail in the US than within in Canada?

In Canada we have a huge geographical area to cover, and all of our pricing is based on origin, destination and weight.

The US has a lot more density and economies of scale.

We do our best to offer a variety of services at different rates to serve your business.

Yes, bags (whether PS branded or not) would be a great perk.
