Q. Can you extend small packet to include smaller or lighter weight goods?

A. Actually this is great idea. We have actually looked into doing this, but unfortunately this has been evaluated and has proven to not be a viable option at this time.

Not a viable option: decided by whom, under what conditions, and using what criteria?

Please define "viable". It would certainly be viable for the Canadian public.

Is it possible to change where you receive your registered mail. I receive packages all the time and there is a postal outlet in a pharmacy not far from my house. However I always have to go to the other side of the quary next to my house. It takes three buses to get there where as the outlet closer to my house is a 5 minute walk. I asked some people in my neighborhood and they said it was the postal code that I lived in H1Z ...

45 minutes for a cut and paste from CP website, some information we still can't rely on as it is contradicting responses directly from the president of canada Post, and some fluff on why the prices/staff are so bad (McDoanld's has a lot more staff who all know how to work the register/charge correctyly!)

WHat is the point of Kim's appearance here? (appraently a whole team this time?)

You have got me on the "any plastic" versus "hard plastic". There are grey areas, and it is impossible to be exact. e.g. a sports card that has been laminated is going to be accepted, just as a regular non-laminated sports card would be. Likewise, if you put a card in a plastic sandwich bag to protect it within an envelope it would be okay. Can I go back to "characteristics of paper"?

Thanks,

- Kim

So a lightweight envelope containing a pin will have to be sent as a small packet under 250 grams, yet you can't set the bar at 100 grams? The parcel will be the same size, and all you have to do is change the value of the stamps or postage sticker. How complicated can that be?

Certainly you can but I have asked several times for a clear definition of characteristics of paper, please provide one.

The same content rules apply to all letterpost, regardless of size. So it is the same for a regular letter as it is for an oversize item.

"There are grey areas, and it is impossible to be exact. "

So Canada Post, 4 months after announcing the change, with a rep who has been here twice and knew this was the main issue, still doenst' know what the rule means themself? pathetic How can "grey areas" ever be enforced?

Further to some additional questions around letterpost and customs stickers.. when should they be used and what are the rules?

A. The appropriate Customs Documentation must appear on all mail items containing merchandise with a destination addresss outside of Canada. The Customs documentation that is required for an item shipped from Canada depends on service used and content of the item.

For Letter-post:

Envelopes containing written correspondence or documents only, do not require any customs documentation

Envelopes containing a paper item of value up to $500 require a CN22 (green customs sticker)

Envelopes containing a paper item valued over $500 require a CN22 (green customs sticker) plus a CP72 (customs declaration dispatch note)

If this is true please point me to the "rules" which exclude items based on materials as opposed to technical characteristics relating to machine sorting

Security . . . the USA wants a customs sticker on an oversized letter because they want to know what is in it (fair enough). Canadapost (at the 3 post offices near me) rip off the green customs label because it is "letter-rate, therefore a letter." The clerks seem to have consistently implemented the paper only rule at my post office. If CP would change the regs to allow an oversized letter to contain ANYTHING that is less than 2cm (and put a customs label on it) it would be fine with the USPS.

If a non-confirming piece of letter-post mail makes it as far as the border (for example, if I were to affix sufficient postage and drop it in a mailbox), will the USPS then return it because of your new regulations?
