Please join us on Thursday, August 25, from 1-2 PM ET for a workshop with Canada Post. Kim from Canada Post will be here to answer all of your questions about Canada Post letterpost service and what the regulations are for using this type of service.

If you are not able to attend, you can leave your questions here in advance of the workshop and they will be answered during the workshop, and you can come back in and check the answers.

Hope you can join us!

Kim -
It is apparent from this thread that Canada Post has no idea how their below par performance is making Canadians un-competative in the global market. This is unbeleivable considering it is a Crown corporation. It's not only that we cannot be competative on the global market but our USA competators have a big advantage in our local Canadian market. Sellers in the USA can ship the same item to Canada for less than Canadians can ship it to Canadians. We are just asking for a level playing field. But I do not think Canada post is up to it or even cares... all of us need to send a link to this thread to our MP's!

Thanks recped. At least someone is paying attention.

Just wondering, Kim, if Canada Post has an idea of how much business has been generated by Ebay over the past few years?

According to the senior clerk at my local postal counter, eBay makes up a huge chunk of her business, since people DON'T SEND LETTERS anymore!

Acceptable content does differ depending on whether items are being sent as letters within Canada or to destinations outside of Canada. CDs are accepted as lettermail within Canada. As we have been discussing, only printed matter (paper content) is accepted for international (including US) destinations. The basis for these differences have to do with regulations and security. It is the environment within which Canada Post as a postal administration does business.

Q. Is it true that small packet rates are going up in the next month or so?

A. Our commercial rates change every January, and the official date for the next one is January 16th/06. Notice of the rate changes are available 30 days prior and this information is sent to our commercial customers automatically.

For this first time this year, all VentureOne customers will also receive a notification.

Lettermail has a six month notification as this is a regulated product. The information on our website at

Why is there such inconsistencies in experience and knowledge with Canada Post's own CSR's(email&telephone)?

Same story at my postal outlet. When are you folks going to wake up and smell the coffee?

This is nonsense. If it is a matter of regulations, then change the regulations. And how does a CD-ROM stuck inside a birthday card become a matter of "security".

Speaking of commercial customers, I can't help wondering about some of our seed companies. Will they now have to mail their little seed packs as small packets? If so, has anyone at Canada Post thought of notifying them?

WHY the concern about letterpost now has not been addressed (believe that answer was promised on past appearance)

Kim- sorry, i had not read your 488 when i posted 512.
But in light of 513's point/quote.........
"could i get your 488 answer "in writing, on CP letterhead", to show to the first outlet clerk that trys to turn away my already PayPal'd one mag shipment. PLEASE ! [I have screen captured and will print it out and laminate it, but it's NOT on CP letterhead].
I'm IN Ottawa, and would even pick it up if you find it's too expensive to mail to me.

I certainly don't understand why eBay cannot allow a last name on this board, and even less why no title/department/anything ?????

Dear Kim,
Can you please explain the fluctuating price of the same parcel, especially when we have taken the time to go a CP outlet, have it weighed, measured and price quoted. Only to find the next day when posting it that the price has risen another $5.00. I think your staff need training for Lettermail, Parcels, right across the board. Thanks, cannbuyhere

So basically I can no longer trade pins with people (mainly US) because it will cost me $5.60 to ship a tiny little lapel pin!
Not to mention thin teenie objects that weigh 20 grams!
This is so upsetting. I will no longer be able to sell on ebay, or partake in a hobby.
