looking for advice on html code in auctions

Hi, sorry if this is off-topic for the PowerSeller forum, but I'm hoping some of us have more skill in HTML than I do. 🙂

My auctions have one picture on them, added using the eBay basic listing method. I don't have a website to link to pictures on. What I want to do, is have the picture appear somewhere in the middle of the auction, and not at the bottom.

Any help at all would be appreciated. Thanks!

looking for advice on html code in auctions

Hi Shooger

Here's the code - just insert it where you'd like the picture to appear within your auction text. You will need to upload your pictures to an image hosting service like Sparedollar or Ranchoweb - cost is around $5.00 monthly. Sparedollar offers pre-designed templates too (although I don't use them myself)

<*** src=http://YOUR PICTURE HOST ADDRESS/YOURPICTURENAME.jpg

Change *** to img
(if I type it in the code it will try to find the fictional address I'm specifying

Okay, trying to type code in is trickier than it looks 🙂

Let's try this again - this time change * to < whereever it appears in the code line:

*p>*center>*img src=http://YOUR PICTURE HOST ADDRESS/YOURPICTURENAME.jpg*/center><*a>

I think what is missing from the instructions above is to customize your pictures within embedded html code on your listing is that you will have to find a web-host for your pictures.

You already have an account with your ISP, and normally this comes with some server space that you can use to host pictures.

Once you have a spot to host your photo's, email me and I would be glad to help out.

I was hoping to hear there was a way to do it without uploading pictures to another service and then linking to them, either through html code or with some eBay setting I hadn't found. The advantage of having my picture come up in the middle of the auction is a minor one. The disadvantage of having to upload to another service is slightly less minor.

I'll probably continue to leave the images at the end of the auction, but thanks very much for the replies 🙂

Uploading to a host is not a big deal. It takes seconds, with a reasonable ftp program, and are very easy to manage, plus it adds a dimension to your listings.

Talk to your ISP and find out how much server space comes with your subscription and then ask them for directions how to upload to their server..... you will be surprised.

(There may be another way to host pictures for your listings, but I am not aware of them).

I still like hosting my pictures as it allows me to change my gallery and posted pictures at any time, not just when the listing is renewed.

ospreylinks, thanks. Shaw.ca has an uploading service on their site, I'll check it out. I do LOTS of volume of low priced items, so it's probably going to be way more hassle than just clicking "browse" and telling eBay where to find the picture on my hard drive. I'll still have a look.

absolutesoul - thanks for the advice, I hadn't heard of that option. It's pretty expensive, though, and I don't see how eBay needs to charge sellers for that "service". How does it cost eBay anything? I don't get it. Oh well.

Shooger -- Shaw.ca lets you have 7 email addys and 10 megs of web space per address! I've taken advantage of that using 50 megs of the space for eBay pix and the other 20 for fun and overflow. I use WSFTP Lite (free) for uploading and Cute FTP is another option (both quite intuitive) -- I didn't know Shaw has an uploading service. I'd better look around some more on their site.

Shooger, honestly I find it just as easy to host my own pics and then give Ebay the url address for gallery and other display on the ebay ads..... as to download the picture to their system.

Plus as I said, then if you want to change the picture during the duration of the auction, you can do it just by updating the file at the host. EZ....

Jeff

PS - plus I can download 50 pics to by host site in a matter of minutes....
