making an offer

I wish sellers would set up this(make me an offer) feature so a potential buyer could know immediately if the offer he/she has made is accepted by the buyer or not.

This morning I made a $35 offer on an item which is also for buy it now price of $79.99.

I waited from 9:00 AM till 4:45 this afternoon and never heard from the seller, meanwhile similar items are being auctioned for around the same price as my offer and I didn't want to miss my chance to bid so regretfully I retracted my offer, although the seller has 48 hours to reply but waiting that long is not fair on the buyer if it means missing the chance to buy or bid on same items for 2 days .

That's why I think it is more beneficial to both parties if the seller can either accept or refuse the offer at least within an hour or set it up to do so automatically.

I did contact the seller to let him know what I did & why and at the same time asked if I'm within the ball park of his reserve to let me know so I can make another offer,so far I got no reply.

Just a thought.

Re: making an offer

Ya I put them up for sale and sold one righteous kill t-shirt then the listing ended I deleted and that was that ...

The ACDC T-shirt are black with Back ACDC back in black on the front  I actually don't see many the same but my listing for it is just brutal mainly because I don't care about them because there not my cup of tea but I will be revising listing shortly and see what I can do with Actual photo instead of stock and putting in actuall measurements instead of stating mens large because we all know when it comes to clothes stating just the size is almost meaningless...

I have some dead stock though that I will be moving shortly as well but not wholesale will be going to a store that is somewhat local and seeing what they can do with them as I have an arrangement where they only pay if they sell or if they get stolen LOL...

Re: making an offer

That style can be pretty mainstream but they could still sell.

If they were the Original, Late 70s Back in Black they would be very valuable.

I have seen many Back in Black shirts listed as Original but are definitely reprints as the date stamp is not on the front on the shirt.

Yes, put your measurements in the listing. Chest sizes are usually pretty accurate but the length can be different depending on the manufacturer. Anvil, Gildan, Tenneesee River, Fruit of the Loom are known to have lengths between 26 & 30 inches.

I'm Six Two, 220 & have a long torso so i usually need a 30 inch length. That should give you a good example why measuremets are important.

I'm going to send a mesage to my friends out east & see if they can move those promos for you. They won't see the message til the morning & they will probably pass, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Re: making an offer

Thanks BB ... I probably could move them if I really tried but when you dealing with 30,000 movies in your basement and a Fire breathing women behind you  you don't try to hard to move the 10 or 15 Tshirts  LOL

Re: making an offer

I wish some buyers would learn to READ!!  I think it says $75.99 or BEST OFFER. Not give me a low ball offer and if that does not work try again a little higher.

Yes they should have it that you just get rejected but they also should have it that you get to make ONE offer and only one as it is suppossed to be your BEST anyway.

Re: making an offer

If you see the Make Offer button below the Buy It Now price in the listing, the seller accepts Best Offers from buyers.

You can negotiate the price with the seller, giving you the opportunity to buy the item at a lower price than the Buy It Now price. The seller can accept your offer, decline your offer, or make a counteroffer. However, you should only make what you consider to be your "best" offer for the item because any seller who receives multiple offers for an item is likely to accept the highest Best Offer.

You should use Best Offer only when you're serious about making a purchase at your Best Offer price. If your offer is accepted by the seller, you and the seller are required to complete the transaction.

To get an idea of a typical selling price for the item you're considering, you can search completed listings.

Re: making an offer

When I sell I use the Best Offer function on occasion.

When I have an item which I know is highly collected but can't figure out if I have a piece which is high end or just middling.......... I'll list it at an outrageously high price and see what happens.

If it's received a lot of views with no takers and I get an offer for 20% of the price I've been known to accept.

(20% of $1,000 is still $200)

99% of the time, though, I know what my stuff is worth and have no use for that function.

I've found that serous buyers will contact me and ask for a reduction in price and most of the time those requests are reasonable and I comply.

The Best Offer function has a lot of uses, but most of the time the way it's used doesn't really make a lot of sense.

Again I would agree with you. Majority of offers are pretty reasonable & I don't have to send a counter offer.

Makes no sense to be a grinder if the margins are there. Fine line again & we could lose the sale.

I would rather have the money in my pocket with an opportunity to buy & turn more stock than have the item sit.

Rarely use the Best Offer function but it still gives us the opportunity to automatically reject or accept an offer that was submitted by the potential buyer.

Of course there is a fine line there for sellers also.

For the categories I sell in, I disagree.  I've seen a significant increase in sales since placing Best Offer on some of the higher end BIN listings.  And I stopped using the automated accept/reject function because I like to be able to see who I'm dealing with and I've found counter-offering works quite well.

During slower periods, it seems people are more inclined to enter into a negotiated price.  Often I do have to make a counter-offer before we come to an agreement, but personally I like using this feature.

I don't really see the difference between serious buyers contacting me for a reduction and my offering up front to negotiate with my buyers -- it's just different shades of the same colour, except the banner is there for all buyers to see.  They don't have to feel uncomfortable about approaching me to get a reduction.  It has also on occasion allowed me to choose between two offers and get the better price.

Re: making an offer

Yes there seems to be a lot more advantages than disadvantages.

Like mentioned previously, most potential buyers are pretty fair when it comes to making offers.

Fortunately JAFOs are just a small part of the eBay experience.
