Beware of Sellers Selling Counterfeit Memory Cards

If it is the one you bought on the 12th, you should file a INAD dispute through Ebay so the seller has to pay for return shipping.

If you filed through Paypal, you will be responsible for return shipping with tracking.

Did you open an item-not-as-described dispute on eBay?

Posting here is pretty useless (except as a vent) since most buyers will never see your message.

We see this so often that I have a boilerplate answer to cut and paste:

You have 30 days after  arrival to open a Dispute with eBay's Resolution Centre, which is at the bottom of this page.
The first suggestion is to Contact the Seller. Don’t get into a conversation.

You want  a prompt refund .
Do NOT accept a replacement. It won’t arrive.
Do NOT close the Dispute until you have the refund.
If you have already attempted to Contact the Seller,  skip that step, ask eBay to step in and Escalate to a Claim.
If the seller does not provide return shipping you will be refunded.

If the seller does not refund himself on return, eBay will refund you and go after him for their money.

If the 30 days have passed, go to your Paypal account.
You have 180 days from payment for this Dispute.
Find the transaction and copy the number.
The PP Resolution Centre is at the top of your PP account page under Tools
Same process basically, skip the Contact Seller and escalate to a Claim.
You will be refunded.

In future, read the feedback.
Don't buy from sellers with less than 98% positive (99% for Asian sellers)
Read the negative feedback , including seller responses, for patterns like slow or no delivery, poor communication, low quality, counterfeits.

BTW-- EBay is one of the easier online sites to get a refund from. I'm still waiting on one from Amazon that I asked for in January 2017.

If it is a MicroSDXC EVO+ 256GB Memory Card w/ Adapter, it should retail at $160+

I'm assuming the $99 knock-off originated in China.

I'll say it again...

Only purchase electronics from certified distributors.

If it's too good to be true, it probably is.

'Item not as described' eBay or PayPal claim asap.

The listing was ended by the seller, who is now  in flight mode.

Yes mccrlmn it is a MicroSDXC EVO+ 256GB Memory Card knockoff from china,

I did not have the option to open a dispute, but it looks like only first option now is to initiate a Return, so Ill see if seller responds, I also reported the listing as fraudulent. I payed with Paypal.

Here is the guide I used to determine the memory was counterfeit;

$99 was a big red flag. Certified retailer's profit margins are typically 5-10%, so how can this guy claiming to be from Ontario, sell for that price?

I don't understand why you can't open a dispute?

I'd go straight to PayPal or credit card issuer.

Your dispute a this point should be launched via paypal or the funding source that you used to purchase the card.

Open an Item Not as Described case. Indicate in the message the item is believed to be counterfeit and the listing has been closed down on ebay.

Do not accept an offer to replace it.

Do not close your case before you have the money back, and watch your deadlines for action and escalation.

Call and speak directly with Customer Service Reps at paypal if you must.

To be clear, while there is an underlying sense of caveat emptor on ebay, counterfeits are not allowed to be sold here.

The Paypal Resolution Centre is under Tools at the top of yourPP account page.

You have 180 days from PAYMENT to open a Dispute.

However, the longer dispute period is offset by PP's requirement that the buyer return the unwanted item on his own dime and with Confirmation of Delivery.

https://www.canadapost.ca/cpotools/apps/far/business/findARate?execution=e1s1

Which can be very expensive.

The system is reasonably straightforward.

The first suggestion is to contact the seller. That's suggestion not command.

However, with most problems an honest buyer and seller can work out a reasonable solution.

You are not dealing with an honest seller.

So skip that step, and  escalate to a Claim.

You will be required by PP to return the item.

When the item is confirmed as received, you will be refunded.

You may find the credit card you attached to your PP account does not require the return. Maybe . It's worth phoning the 1-800 number on the back of your credit card and asking.

Like other posters, I don't understand why you think you cannot open a Not As Described dispute on eBay.

You have 30 days from actual delivery to do so.

And the Contact the Seller is basicially optional. (Again, normally it is the fastest way of solving a problem with an honest seller.)

I followed the link to open a dispute and it directs me to initiate a return now, so this is like opening a dispute.

I looked at my Paypal transaction and it says First contact the seller through eBay to try resolving the problem. If it's still not resolved, go to the eBay Resolution Centre.

If you can open a dispute via ebay, do so. That's the best way to send back an item that's counterfeit because it puts the onus on the seller to fund the cost of return postage.
