I face awful sellers non-stop. No wonder why ebay has a bad reputation to the eyes of a lot of buyers.
Today as exemple there's an auction with 0 bid starting at $20 and i contact seller to offer $60 to just buy now. The seller reply he would do $80. I answer that to me it's better just trying to get it lower in auction at this price, that $60 was really my best offer, and already a winning situation for both of us.
You know what. Seller increased his auction starting bid to $60.
Good demonstration of why a lot of buyers shop elsewhere. Too many unethical sellers on the platform. Those hurts the fair sellers reputation. I have hundreds of stories like this.

OTOH what you did was tell the seller that his item was likely worth $60.
Was there a BIN on the auction?
Looks like you tipped your hand, especially if you used your selling ID.
This is why some members have multiple IDs (I have four active and three inactive.) One for selling, one for buying, one for posting and one for goofing around.

He knew the approximative value of the item but with trading cards value vary from one day to another and from one copy to another. It's nothing fixed.
I just think he realized it was a gamble for him to decline my offer and let the auction run, and probably think i will bid that $60 anyway since it was my offer. He used me and tried to exploit. He locked that amount to remove all my leverage and remove my chances to win it lower. It's just manipulation. But i won't bid.
