Thanks Julie. I met a whole bunch of old pals from high school this last weekend as I attended the 50th anniversary reunion of my high school. Hubby and I had a blast and they published a directory of all the attendees with their contact info so I think I'll have a busy summer reconnecting with old friends. Some folks even flew in from out of town to attend and some that couldn't be there included their contact info in the directory so I've been busy today e-mailing all over the place (lol).

There's nothing quite like re-connecting with old friends again -- with all of us losing our memories, they remember things that I forgot and vice-versa (lol). It sort of reminded me of who I used to be in those days and I realized that I let a lot of things drop over the years that gave me much enjoyment, so there's gonna be a lot of positive changes in my life coming up soon! :-x

You are sooooo brave to attend your reunion! I weighed 110 lbs. in high school, and now..well, let's just say that I'm not the girl I was! :^O

My 30th is next year. I keep deluding myself into thinking I have a whole year to get back to my old skin. :^O

I attended the last two reunions in 1982 and 1987 weighing pretty much the same as I had in high school. The time around, I had gained about 75 pounds since then, but by choosing my outfit carefully, it went off without a hitch. Even some of the guys told me I looked great! There weren't too many people there that looked the same either -- most of the men were almost bald.

I picked out an outfit made in India called a salwar kameez (sp?). It's basically a long, loose dress with slits up the side that falls below the knee. There's no waistline and there's a pair of matching pants underneath with an elastic waistband. The whole dress was beautifully decorated with beadwork and it had a matching long scarf/shawl and it was so comfortable that I was able to boogie the night away without a care in the world.

In any case, my desire to see my old friends was stronger than any vain aspirations I might have had to look 18 again (lol).

Well, your last sentence sure convicted me, Lu. You're right - seeing old friends is more important than my vanity. 🙂

BTW...your outfit sounds lovely!

Good morning all! Blessed be the name of the Lord, from Whom all blessings come! 🙂

The Grandfather's Table

A frail old man went to live with his son, daughter-in-law, and four-year old grandson. The old man's hands trembled, his eyesight was blurred, and his step faltered. The family ate together at the table, but the elderly grandfather's shaky hands and failing sight made eating difficult. Peas rolled off his spoon onto the floor. When he grasped the glass, milk spilled on the tablecloth.

The son and daughter-in-law became irritated with the mess. "We must do something about Grandfather," said the son. "I've had enough of his spilled milk, noisy eating, and food on the floor." Therefore, the husband and wife set a small table in the corner. There, Grandfather ate alone while the rest of the family enjoyed dinner. Since grandfather had broken a dish two, his food was served in a wooden bowl. When the family glanced in Grandfather's direction, sometimes he had a tear in his eye as he sat alone. Still, the only words the couple had for him were sharp admonitions when he dropped a fork or spilled food.

The four-year-old watched it all in silence. One evening before supper, the father noticed his son playing with wood scraps on the floor. He asked the child sweetly, "What are you making?" Just as sweetly, the boy responded, "Oh, I am making a little bowl for you and Mama to eat your food in when I grow up." The four-year-old smiled and went back to work. The words so struck the parents that they were speechless. Then tears started to stream down their cheeks. Though no word was spoken, both knew what must be done.

That evening the husband took Grandfather's hand and gently led him back to the family table. For the remainder of his days, he ate every meal with the family. And for some reason, neither husband nor wife seemed to care any longer when a fork was dropped, milk spilled, or the tablecloth soiled.

Children are remarkably perceptive. Their eyes ever observe, their ears ever listen, and their minds ever process the messages they absorb. If they see us patiently provide a happy home atmosphere for family members, they will imitate that attitude for the rest of their lives. The wise parent realizes that every day, the building blocks are being laid for the child's future. Let us be wise builders and role models.

LET ME GIVE

I do not know how long I'll live
But while I live, Lord, let me give
Some comfort to someone in need
By smile or nod, kind word or deed.

And let me do what ever I can
To ease things for my fellow man.
I want naught but to do my part
To "lift" a tired or weary heart.

To change folks' frowns to smiles again.
Then I will not have lived in vain
And I'll not care how long I'll live
If I can give ... and give ... and give.

Good evening folks. Just drive by post. Wishing everyone blessings from the Lord this day. Do we always remember we are in His hands (literally).

Some here may remember I had asked prayer for FIL. He had had a massive hemerrrige and then later a cancer operation. 3 weeks ago I believe. His report today from the doctor was aok and they believe they got it all. He is out driving and independent again. Will be fly fishing on a lovely evening like this.

Positive thinking and prayer does work wonders. God is so kind to hear us. The family is much relieved and look at the initial hemerriage as God working and getting him to medical attention before the caner had gotten too far.

Any way sorry to bore with details but wanted to post good news.

Take care all. Good to see nikki back. Julie and nellie and Lucie hi there. and I probably missed others but hi anyway.

Lurkers always remember Jesus loves us all.

King Herod's tomb found, major Biblical signifigance?

Sarcophagus dug up in Herodium in the Judean Desert

May 08, 2007 07:49 AM

JERUSALEM — An Israeli archaeologist on Tuesday said he has found the tomb of King Herod, the legendary builder of ancient Jerusalem and the Holy Land.

Hebrew University archaeologist Ehud Netzer said the tomb was found at Herodium, a flattened hilltop in the Judean Desert where Herod built a palace compound. Netzer has been working at the site since the 1970s.

Netzer said the tomb was discovered when a team of researchers found pieces of a limestone sarcophagus believed to belong to the ancient king. Although there were no bones in the container, he said the sarcophagus’ location and ornate appearance indicated it is Herod’s.

“It’s a sarcophagus we don’t just see anywhere,” Netzer said at a news conference. “It is something very special.”

Netzer led the team, though he said he was not on the site when the sarcophagus was found.

Herod became the ruler of the Holy Land under the Romans around 40 B.C. The wall he built around the Old City of Jerusalem during the time of the Jewish Second Temple is the one that can be seen today. He also undertook massive construction projects in Caesaria, Jericho, the hilltop fortress of Massada and other locations.

It has long been assumed that Herod was buried at Herodium, but decades of excavations failed to turn up the site until now. The first century historian Josephus Flavius described the tomb and Herod’s funeral procession.

Herodium was one of the last strong points held by Jewish rebels fighting against the Romans, and it was conquered and destroyed by Roman forces in A.D. 71, a year after they destroyed the Second Temple in Jerusalem.

Hebrew University had hoped to keep the find a secret until Netzer’s news conference on Tuesday. But the university announced the find in a brief statement late Monday after the Haaretz daily found out about the discovery and published an article on its Web site.
