A CHRISTIAN THREAD

Hello to everyone. Hope you have a good day.

Nellie--I love your siggie--it is for the big day, right?

Our Pastor is going through John with us. Most of the congregation has been going to this church all of their lives, so they have heard it before, but for me, most of it is new. I am enjoying it so much--it is like coming home. I sure took long enough to get there, but I am in the right place.

Sweet dreams!

Ahhhh, Nicki - yes I think that's what Ramona had in mind when she made up that siggie for me...I also needed a purple siggie for purple Friday.

John ... of the four gospels, it's the book that focuses on the divinity of Jesus Christ. Matthew focuses on His royalty & kingship; Mark focuses on His servanthood; & Luke focuses on His humanity. Reading John helps me understand God the Father better. Jesus claims if you know me, you know the Father. I truly believe God finds extreme pleasure in having you back in His arms. Rest in it. Nellie, I always love your posts, you know I do.

Since I am of no particular religion, I am unsure of all the aspects, but one thing I do know about jewish people though is that they do not believe that Jesus was the Messiah so I doubt that they believe he is returning.

Hello everyone:

Hello Nicki:-x

Hello Nellie:-x

I was just reading the last few posts in here and I hope you don't mind if I put in my two cents worth in here.

I think that it is important to remember that in reading stories and accounts of events where it pertains to religious and spiritual beliefs is that it is not imperitave to ensure that the historical accuracy of the account is pristine. It is more important to heed the underlying message that is being offered through the telling of the account. <>

Hello to you too Ramona:-x

I agree, no one can have absolute accuracy.

I was responding to Nellie's question to Nancy as to whether she believed that 'he would rise again', knowing that Nancy is jewish.

There are a few messages in that story, that can be interpreted in different ways, not unlike anything else.

Thanks TTT, thanks Ramona. I guess I lost that info in the recesses of my mind...but I read it over and over and there is nothing there that's meant to be offensive to the Jews. I really do try to post neutral info and at the same time be sensitive to people's race, gender, political or religious affiliations. I look at everyone as God's people and as such, are to be loved - even if they're not so lovable sometimes!

Anyway, I came to post something else.

I received this in my e-mail and I thought I'd share it here. 🙂

A little long, but bear with me ... all we're requesting is to take the time to pray ...

Hi: I know I'm inundating you (and friends receiving this via blind carbon copy) with items about Zimbabwe these days, but times are critical and so I'm sending on to you something received from a friend in Cape Town. Something we can ALL do is pray. God bless you. Margo

Dear Friend,
In WW2 Hitler was brutally taking over the world, there was an advisor to Churchill who organised a group of people who dropped what they were doing every nighte at a prescribed time for just one minute to collectively pray for the safety of England, its people and peace.

Things drastically changed, and the rest is history.

God is the answer and prayer is the only way for Zimbabwe.

In view of the current state of affairs in Zimbabwe we are organising a daily one minute prayer time at 8AM, or 1PM, or 8PM (any time zone). At any one of this times, please stop whatever you are doing and spend that one minute praying for God to intervene in the affairs of our country.

Someone said if Christians really understood the full extent of the power we have available through prayer, we might be speechless.

Our prayers are the most powerful asset we have. Together we can make a difference.

If you know any other Christian brothers and sisters who would like to participate in this powerful exercise, please pass this along.

THANK YOU,

ZIMBABWE

And further to that ...

This is from Margaret Kriel's Morning Mirror, please try and pass it on to as many people as you can.
Many thanks

(Margaret Kriel is a professional broadcaster & journalist who has lived all her life in Zimbabwe. Married with three children and several dogs, she is a public figure at odds with the current government because of her refusal to simply punt their propaganda line. Passionate about her country and missing the many friends who have left, she now communicates with them using the internet. On Thursday 10th April 2008, Robert Mugabe had Mags thrown in jail, & but was released on bail this afternoon (14/4/08).

Dear World,

I am a 16 year old person living in Zimbabwe. I think the time has come for a more direct appeal, and so I am writing to you, the world.

Maybe, just maybe, there might be someone out there who can help us...

It's tough here now. The inflation rate is so high that if you don't change money within 6 hours you could get half the amount of foreign currency that you would have originally received.

We're starving now; people die around us. In the last year alone at least ten people associated personally with my family have died despite the fact that they were only middle-aged. Other people don't make it to middle age. They don't even make it past childhood.

Our once-proud nation is on it's knees. We flee or die. This beautiful, bountiful once-rich land has become a living hell. We have dealt with it until now; we have made a plan. That was the Zimbabwean motto: "MAKE A PLAN".

But now we can't make a plan. We're too tired, too broken, too bankrupt. We can't afford life, and life does not cost much, not really. We cannot afford to eat, we cannot afford to drink, and we cannot afford to make mistakes, because if we do we die. We don't have the capital to support ourselves, and those few who do, have to deal with the horror of watching their friends and family fall into absolute poverty as they cannot afford to help them.

We're waiting desperately for a great hand to pick us up out of the dirt because at the moment we are outnumbered by Fate herself, and so we close our eyes and pray. We have fought for too long, and have been brought to breaking point. We simply stand, heads down, and bear it. Our spirit has gone; we are defeated. After a valiant struggle of over fifteen years, we have been broken.

There is no will left, no spirit. Like a horse that has been beaten until it cannot fight anymore; we are the same, and, like that horse, we stand dusty, scarred and alone, with dried blood on our sides and lash marks along our flanks. Our ribs too stand out; our hide is also dull.

Our eyes are glazed, our throats are parched, and our knees struggle to support us so that we stand with splayed legs to bear the brunt of the next beating, too dejected even to whimper...

This is my plea. The thought of picking ourselves up again is sickening; one can only take so many blows before oblivion is reached, and we are teetering on the rim of the bottomless void. One more push will be the end of us all...
There must be someone out there who can do something. There must be someone out there who cares! We are a destroyed nation, and the world sits back and watches, pretending they cannot hear our cries. I appeal to you all...

HELP US! A 16 YEAR OLD ZIMBABWEAN

OK - I haven't had time to research the authenticity of the letter (it's pretty perfect English) but I can say a prayer regardless ... 1 minute ... that's all they ask.

I don't know how many times that I've read on this board alone that asking questions, or questioning something is perfectly fine.

Anyway, have a good day all!

Have a question. - I was filling out a form for a survey site, and there was a section where it asked for 'religion' - Normally I don't answer that one, but the choices intrigued me. - there were the obvious like Jewish, Hindu, Sikh, Wicca - then there was Catholic, Protestant or Christian. Now I had always thought Protestant and Christian were one and the same thing - as well as Catholic - I thought anyone who believed in Christ was a Christian. Is there a difference ???

Depends on who you talk to Marion. Protestant and Catholic are both considered Christian faiths. Protestant being all the other Christian based faiths besides Catholics. Many of them believe they will be the only religion getting into heaven. Many denounce any other faith but their own and others are more open minded with the thought all roads to God are good roads.

As recently seen with the Beauty Pagent fiasco in Toronto around Christmas, those Christians believed that anyone who practiced yoga or reiki no matter their other beliefs were damned. Stephanie was a practicing Wiccan but I know many good Christian people who are reiki healers and have a strong faith that their healing comes from God.

So as you can see and there are as many points of view as there are people, this is a very big question.

Thanks for your reply - that's kind of what I was thinking, I was just a little surprised to see them separated on a list. I know my brother in laws pentecostal believe they're the only ones going to heaven, and once another child (Christian Evangelical) told my Anglican raised daughter that she wasn't a Christian. - ! Personally I,m of the all roads lead to the one God belief - (Wasn't that Ghandi - I think Trupti quoted that once - I liked it)
Thanks again - Marion
