Welcome to a place where Christ should be exalted and "Self" should be abased!!

Welcome to a place where the BIBLE can be discussed rationally, intelligently, and positively without unnecessary argument!!

Welcome to a place where prayer can be requested and encouraged!!

Welcome to a place where positive and encouraging thoughts from scripture can be shared in a caring and loving way!!

Welcome to a place away from all the arguments, recriminations, and negativity of the outside world!!

Welcome to a place of rest and safety!!

Welcome to a place where Philippians 2:3 is practiced: "Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves."

Welcome to this Christian thread.

(Please leave all aggression, bitterness, and philosophy outside the door and please wipe your feet before coming inside!!)

Re: A CHRISTIAN THREAD

Yes, Dove, this was a very sobering week. Seeing the cross in the church draped in black was wrenching.

The Altar Guild this morning did such a beautiful job. The head of the guild brought in armful and armfuls of flowers and greens. We cleaned and scrubbed (yes putting a towel over dripped wax on the carpet and ironing it, does work!) and polished, everyone doing their part with such joy. The altar linens are all freshly washed and ironed. The head of the guild is gifted and artistic, and does amazing flower arrangements. We were all through, then someone arrived with arm loads of cedar and forsythia. H of AG did another lovely arrangement for a dark little corner. Our usually very plain little church looks so lovely today, awaiting tomorrow.

Hello Liz, nice to read your post! Hope you are enjoying Easter, its such a beautiful day out, we are at the half way point with the garage today, removed the window, emptied all the middle floor stuff anyway.

I've just about washed everything that ever could be washed inside the house, tomorrow I will tackle every couch cushion and pillow I can find as Im sure my laundry machine can only take so much in one day LOL! I have so many clotheslines going inside and out full of blankets and coats.

The dogs are bathing in the sun, the kids are playing tennis down the road, its all good! Love this weekend! Well im back out there, enjoy your weekend if I don't get back for a few.

Have a nice day! 🙂

Re: A CHRISTIAN THREAD

Hi Ramona! Hi everyone!

Hope you are all having a beautiful Easter. Even our little church was filled with hope this morning. Several visitors, and a very nice young couple from Tahiti that moved here.

Christine--how wonderful--you are full of energy and getting all these things done--those are great days. Sunshine sounds wonderful too--it is absolutely pouring rain here. Lots of inside Easter egg hunts--but in SW B.C., one should always have a backup plan. LOL.

Just finishing up getting all that is needed to take to DD's. Speaking of backups, they have moved the BBQ from their back deck, to their covered porch out front just for today. Don't know how the Tacky Police will feel, but we are going for it!

((((Hugs)))) to all that want them.

Evening Liz, how'd the BBQ go on the weekend? Did the weather cooperate? Your description of your church sounds so quaint 🙂

I got most of what I wanted done on the weekend but it got cold Monday so there's still work to do in the garage. I read thursday is going to be warm again.

Hope all is well, if I'm not around, have a good one!

p.s. I can't find what you mentioned still, but I'll look for a few more.

Re: A CHRISTIAN THREAD

Good afternoon/evening to everyone.

Ramona, I haven't seen Nellie lately but she is one busy lady. Many of the posters here are--but it is all good.

Dove--what grand opening?

Christine--thank you for trying to find the things I was talking about. The problem is solved. Again, thank you!

DH & I went to the new Lee Valley which is opening in Collwood. My DS loves it, and we were really looking forward to it. I don't know if all the stores are this way, but here you don't get to take the merchandise off the shelves. You have to write the stock no. etc. on a slip, stand in line to have them take the slip, wait, then when it arrives by conveyor belt from the storeroom, you have to stand in line at the cashiers to pay for it. The prices were comparable, but for now, I would rather buy at my local nursery and only deal with one line. But the good thing, we found a little restaurant and had a nice lunch.

On Sunday, one of the hymns we sang was "Now the Green Blade Rises"--I really liked it. Not being too familiar with churches, and not watching Sunday morning TV, I had not heard it before.

"In the grave they laid him
Love whom hate has slain"

I found those words very moving.

Re: A CHRISTIAN THREAD

Good morning from a finally sunny Island. We actually had frost forecast last night, but it didn't happen--my lettuce is still standing.

Christine--being tired does count! When I post late at night, I do lots of things that spell check doesn't catch like using the wrong word. I know the difference between "their" "there" and "they're" but when I am tired, I use my typing fingers like "their" best and so automatically type it. I also do that when I am short of time and trying to get a post done too. So I am adding "in a hurry" to the list of things that count.:-)

Good morning all ...

I was on another thread reading Susan's post about proving or disproving God and this song popped into my head. I'm such a 'song' person - music speaks to my heart best.

a statement in a presentation I gave in church on worship:...As He brings on miracles, He becomes a bit bigger every time. When you stop to lok around and realize that the heavens and earth really 'DO TELL of the glory of God' and when we are seized by the REALITY of God, we respond in worship. At its heart, worship is magnifying God - the God of the Universe, the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FvgspvBVEUo

In the stars His handiwork I see,
On the wind He speaks with majesty.
Though He ruleth over land and sea,
What is that to me?

I will celebrate Nativity,
For it has a place in history,
Sure, He came to set His people free,
What is that to me?

Til by faith I met Him face to face,
And I felt the wonder of His grace,
Then I knew that He was more
Than just a God who didn't care,
That lived away out there
and .....
Now He walks beside me day by day,
Ever watching o'er me lest I stray,
Helping me to find that narrow way,
He is everything to me.

Re: A CHRISTIAN THREAD

Hi Nellie! Nice to read you. In case you two haven't caught up yet, Ramona was looking for you earlier.

I haven't read Susan's post, I will try and find it. I don't debate or try to prove God. To me, He just is.

I spend years and years and going down various paths before I got here. I spent far too much time trying to be cool, and trying to disprove, what I now know, definitely is. One day it occurred to me I spent a lot of time, energy and anger over something that I was saying wasn't real. There is none so blind as she who will not see. I opened my mind and God's love filled it. I cannot describe the joy. God loved an old sinner like me, and this same love was available for everyone. Miracle indeed.

I am so thankful.

Good evening everyone. Hope all is well and that you all are enjoying the spring.

I am so glad that I dropped in to read the tread this evening.

Thank you Nellie ... your posts are so enjoyable to read.

Nikki ... your post so touches on the feelings of each Christian heart .... while we find it so hard to explain what we know and how we know to others, as Christians we all experience the same things .... Your mention of joy reminds me of the night I came to God and was too filled with that unspeakable joy ...
and yes before that there was none so blind as he who would not see .... your post brought back precious memories.

Very often the world judges our Lord by the most imperfect creatures that He has redeemed and sent back into the world to speak of His love and encourage others to seek Him ....

the world demands proof that we as weak as we are can not give ... yet the proofs suround them as they do us ... for those willing to see ... for those not willing to see there is really nothing we can say that will convince them against their will.

If they are to find this great One it must be the same as it was with ourselves .... the Holy Spirit must do the leading and then Christ must do the redeeming ....

Very often we ourselves can be guilty of juding where we have no right to judge ... it seems to be a trait of fallen creatures ... we must always remember that we very often judge as to the outward while God judges as to the inward .... there is nothing that He can not and does not see ... even the deep and hidden even from ourselves, the secrets of our hearts ....

if you have not seen the following video it is well worth while watching .....

What the world at first often sees as undesirable .... God can see and gives beauty ..... take care everyone ....

Re: A CHRISTIAN THREAD

((((Andrew)))) very nice to "see" you.

I had seen that video--it was posted on CTS, then I saw it on our local news, I read about it in this morning's newspaper and I just got back from the pharmacy where two clerks were discussing it, and several people joined in. That video just has something special about it--it makes people happy. I read in the newspaper that she has been picked upon in her life. It must have taken great courage for her to stand and have her talent judged. It was almost noble. Seeing the initial reactions to her and seeing them change, just makes me smile and smile. I think I will watch it again.

Hope you will be back often Andrew.
