Lets tell it like it is! Canadians do not collect or submit taxes on used items , sold or bought at garage sales , flea markets , or personal sales of personal items! So where is this money collected by ebay going to? When the Canadian government and the provinces do not charge on these used items that the taxes were already paid when the item or items were purchased new. Is ebay just going to keep the charges for there own greed that ebay has shown over the years? I for one and hopefully many more of us long time ebay sellers will just give up selling on ebay! many more local free options are available anyway through on line market places , flea markets.

The one that confuses me is "rote13" (?) used to hide spoilers by some book and movie review sites I hang about in.
In part because I can't help but think of spicy tinned tomatoes when I see the name.

A sale of goods and services is a sale period. It has NEVER mattered if you were a business or not , and it has NEVER mattered if the item is NEW , USED or any other possible definintion. You do not get exempt just for reselling junk you find.

Sorry but Canada tax laws exclude taxing individuals selling used goods between themselves. Your thrift store example does not hold water because they are a business not a individual. So no wonder eBay has a tax policy for Canada, they have the whole thing wrong and I hope that a class national class action suit will will start as soon as possible. In Quebec, you don't pay PST on used vehicles including boats and RV sold between private parties so just this example proves eBay's tax policy WRONG.

The taxation process is Canadian law and just because Quebec has its own laws and doesn't believe in being a part of Canada, does not support the application of the taxation processes for the rest of Canada. BTW, this isn't about eBay> this taxation applies to ALL marketplace facilitators(Etsy,Amazon, etc, etc) and thereby renders this whole idea that this is all eBay's fault a non-issue just as this ongoing idea of a "class action suit" > such a joke....Wake up and smell the roses...this taxation has been in place for nearly 3 years now and it is not going away....nor is it going away in the USA, or the EU countries and so on...

Yes because most individuals do not have a business tax number so they aren't set up to collect and remit tax. But eBay is not an individual and IS required to collect and remit tax on most new and used items sold here. They did NOT collect tax on our sales u til the government required it.

If you ever bought a used car in Quebec, you'd know you still have a tax to pay when transfering titles of a vehicule. It's not PST by name, but it's still a tax.
Please stop arguing against paying taxes when you go through a commercial service! Or go all the way, and lobby to revert to no federal taxes like before WW1...

You are a little late to the party...
This is a Zombie Thread from 5-10-2022 and past its use-by date, It is old news and history, it was announced in your 2021 Canadian Budget by your elected officials who put it in place, not eBay.
