(Mis)managed Payments

"We charged your credit card ending in XXXX for C $19.00. The reason for the charge was that you didn’t have enough available funds to pay what you owed for previous transactions." The charge is for postage. Why does eBay pay money into my bank account without first deducting this amount, instead sticking it on a credit card? I'm mystified by "available funds". Where are these supposed to be? PayPal I understood, Managed Payments I don't.

Someone else should be able to explain more as I'm not totally clear on everything.  But from what I understand, once the funds are processing they are 'available' until their status 'sent to account'.  I don't know why they don't immediately debit the shipping charge.

Some sellers have said that weekly payouts work better than daily payouts from as the funds stay available until Tuesday..the weekly payout day.   If I'm wrong about them staying available until the Tuesday, please correct me.

I realize that this has been asked before but one thing that I'm still not clear about is where the money comes from if there isn't enough available funds.  Can it be set up to automatically come from the payout bank account or does it have to be a credit card? Can it be Paypal?   As far as I remember I haven't set up a location for money to be taken from and so far, I've had available funds so it hasn't been an issue.  Where does this get set up, I haven't been able to find it.

The only option for debit that I've found is a credit card. PayPal uses the same account for both credit and debit. I wonder why eBay can't. It's annoying to receive payment in one way and then subsequently be charged in a different way.

I thought that was why MP will only accept a chequing account, not a savings account. They can draw from it the same way we can set up automatic monthly payment of bills, even if those bills vary from month to month.

Bank account or credit card can be set as "Preferred for selling costs". If not specified, ebay will use the bank account.

PayPal can only be used for "Checkout" (ie buying stuff from other sellers).
