I recently sold a gold ring on eBay, which was delivered to the buy last Thursday. He was extremely happy with the purchase, left 5 STAR feedback and sent me a confirmation of delivery and positive feedback in an email through eBay's system.
I called into eBay on Thursday (May 23, 2024) to ask them to release the HOLD that had been put on this transaction and was told by the eBay rep that my money would be available within 24 hours - I recorded this call and also eBay recorded it.
The funds were not released within 24 hours....
I called in to eBay on Saturday and spoke to another rep and this time they told me that my funds were on a 'mandatory 30 day hold'. I asked them, "Why?" when they had told me that my funds would be released within 24 hours... They cited their 'Ebay Policies' but couldn't give me a clear answer... Asked for a supervisor to give me a call back and they promised me that a supervisor would call me back within 48 hours.... That didn't happen either....
I called back today, Monday, and spoke to a supervisor who informed me that because of the price of my item (over $1,000) that my funds were on hold and because eBay offers a 30 day money back guarantee.. I asked her a simple question, "Maam, I sold a laptop last year for over $1,000 - did eBay offer a 30-day money back guarantee on that too?" She lookded back on the order and said, "Yes". I said, "Maam, ebay released my funds for that transaction within 24 hours after I called in!" She had nothing to say to this....
She just sited me eBay policies and said that this item has a 30 day mandatory hold put on it...
This is the world selling experience I have had in over a decade!

eBay holds funds for new sellers, especially for high value items, for quite a while. The good news is, if you sell more frequently the hold period reduces rapidly - sometimes releasing the funds before you even ship. I think if you go to Seller Hub -> Payments it should indicate when the funds will be released.

eBay "reps" are "Reps" in name only ...a meaningless "title" ...and rarely do these persons have any knowledge worth passing on to an eBay member....this is the way of the world now>>>meaningless/useless so-called "customer service" on selling sites...Etsy is as bad or worse than eBay.... Long gone are the days when a seller (or buyer for that matter) could call on a reputable/reliable customer service rep with actual knowledge and helpful information and/or receive assistance resolve a problem or issue. Customer service on eBay is truly "D-E-A-D"!!

We know it's important that you receive your money as quickly as possible. However, we may sometimes need to put a hold on your funds due to your selling history or performance, or to address disputes. This helps us keep eBay a safe marketplace for buyers and sellers.
In most cases, holds are lifted when a buyer confirms they’ve received their item or when a case is resolved.

To help ensure eBay remains a safe place to buy and sell, and to meet our legal and compliance obligations, we sometimes place a hold on funds, for example, if there's an open case or dispute on a transaction, if your buyer reports a problem with the order, if your account is restricted or suspended, if you owe eBay money, or if you're a new or infrequent seller. If we placed a hold on your funds, we'll notify you by email and, depending on the reason, may request additional information from you to help resolve the issue.
There are various reasons why we may place a hold on your funds.
Transaction holds are when we place a hold on funds related to a particular buyer transaction. The funds on hold may be used to refund the buyer for the same transaction.
While proceeds from your sales typically become available within 1 day of confirming the buyer’s payment, we may place a transaction hold on funds while we ensure a successful transaction. To reduce the likelihood of a transaction hold, we recommend posting an item the same day your buyer pays for it and following good postage practices, such as adding tracking information to your order.
Tip
If we place a hold on your funds, it will usually be resolved within 30 days, but in rare circumstances it may take longer. For most orders, adding tracking information can help you receive your funds faster.
Additionally, we may place a transaction hold on funds depending on your seller status, changes to your account status, or other factors we use to help ensure a safe marketplace in all categories, regardless of whether the transaction is covered by our eBay Money Back Guarantee or not:
Payment dispute holds are when we place a hold on funds related to a problem reported by a buyer, regardless of whether the transaction is covered by our eBay Money Back Guarantee or not.
For example, if a buyer reports that an item hasn't arrived, or the item they received is significantly different from the listing description, we hold funds until the case is resolved and closed. For more information see our article on best practices for avoiding and handling issues with buyers.
The funds on hold may be used to refund the buyer for the same transaction.
Payout holds are when we hold funds payable to a particular seller, and usually require further seller action on the account.
