Are there new rules for Canadians selling on dot COM?

As a Canadian with US suppliers, I would prefer to sell to US residents. I am having difficulty creating a sellers account on dot COM. Is it mandatory to have a US bank account and US credit card?

Basically yes.

EBay is moving to Managed Payments and sellers in MP can only have one bank account which must be on the site they register.

But.

You can open an eBayCanada account-- which I guess you already have-- and list on dotCOM with no problems.

There are quirks.

You MUST list in US dollars.

You MUST ship to the USA.

  • Neither of these is going to be a problem.

You MUST give the location of the goods, not your own.

You MUST use Flat Rate Shipping from an International Location if you are shipping from Canada.

  • Since your supplier will be shipping for you (right?) you will be able to use the USPS services and Calculated Shipping.

Because anyone who posts on these Boards is a volunteer and pretty much a busybody, I can't stop myself from telling you that dropshipping is a mug's game.

Your listings use your supplier's pictures, your supplier's description, your supplier's packaging, your supplier's shipping charge, your supplier's choice of shipping services.

You have no control over any of these.

You are responsible for the pictures which may or may not be accurate, the description which may or may not be accurate, the packaging which may or may not be adequate, the shipping charge which may or may not be fair, and the shipping service which you did not choose.

If there is a problem, you are responsible to your customer and to eBay.

Not the supplier.

He has the money and he ain't giving it back.

Yes. Currently, if you are hoping to register with ebay.com as a Canadian resident I doubt very much you will succeed. Ebay has just about completed their transition from PayPal to a completely in-house payment processing system. The loss of PayPal has meant that Canadian residents are no longer able to register directly with ebay.com. The only avenue available is to register with ebay.ca

Canadian accounts are still  able to list directly on ebay.com in USD however with the introduction of ebay's in-house Managed Payments system Canadian accounts are now forced to receive USD sales in CAD funds which then must be deposited directly into a Canadian bank account. This is a major currency obstacle many, many Canadian sellers face.

Many are hoping ebay will at some point in the future develop some sort of dual currency account and restore their ability to receive and hold USD. I'm not very confident that we will see that anytime soon if ever.

It has already been announced that Canadians will be able to receive $USD into a Canadian $USD bank account through Managed Payments.  It should be happening later this month.

Hey, did it happen yet? I am looking to create a business account on ebay, not sure if I should go for .com or .ca.
