Beware returns to Canada from the U.S., they can cost a LOT

While inter-city and state shipping in the U.S. via USPS is very inexpensive, especially if you ship in quanitity, U.S. to Canada shipments can be double the cost of Canada to the U.S. shipments.  I recently shipped a product there that had to come back and the shipping cost (legitimate) was double what I'd paid to ship to the U.S.   So if you sell something for $100, and it costs $20 to ship, you could see yourself with a $40 return shipping cost, essentially and probably wiping out any margin on the original sale.  The ideal scenario would never to have to take a product back, but that's not always possible.  In a case like that, a discount for the buyer to keep the product (partial refund) or even (depending on the circumstances and costs) abandoning the product and just giving back the sale price might be the best option.

Re: Beware returns to Canada from the U.S., they can cost a LOT

I no longer ship anything to the US that is worth returning since I got hit with a SNAD (that wasn't really a SNAD) for a $65 item that cost over $40 to return (had to go Priority since it was over 4 lbs). Hard lesson learned. It's hardly even worth it for CAD sales, since I try to keep my listings under $100. Switching to a higher volume of low valued items seems to be a better sales strategy these days in light of current policies.

It's ------ ROBBERY.  $50 to ship from Toronto to Los Angeles, and $200 return via either UPS/FEDEX/or USPS.

Absolute SCAM.  Ebay offers ZERO help in this it's a disgrace. You know how amazon does it?  They givey you a label to print out, you slap it on and it's DONE.

Like eBay, Amazon doesn't facilitate international returns.

Can't use use Pirate Ship and purchase return shipping? Call their support and ask for the simple export rate to Canada..

If you have a CRA import license, you could probably use Pirate Ship for the US portion and Shippsy for the cross border part. The cost would likely be the same, if not less, than what you paid to ship it originally.

Absolutely not true. I've done three Amazon returns to the US. Via UPS.

Like local returms, they provide the shipping label. You just need to complete the customs declarations, pack it and drop it off. That simple.

Were these items sold by Amazon or through Amazon by marketplace sellers?  And did the return go to Amazon or directly to the seller if the latter?
