Buyer Request Different Shipping Address

Someone bought an item from me today. It's a Christmas present so he wants it sent to a different address.

He paid before he made this request. I can't send to a different address from what shows on paypal and have seller protection, can I?

Thanks.

To qualify for PayPal Seller Protection, you have to ship with delivery confirmation. If you are not shipping with DC, then you can ship to any address the buyer wants because you are not protected anyway.

Cynical but true.

So if I sip to the different address with tracking info, I'm not covered? Is delivery confirmation different than tracking showing the item arrived?

Thanks.

If sent to a different address there is no coverage with tracking or delivery confirmation. Usually I take a chance and ship anyway. But really the buyer should have added the other address to his paypal account.

I think this is correct.  I'm fairly certain that unless you ship to the address shown on the Paypal transaction, you're out of luck anyway.

It's hard to know what to do in these situations.  You want to accommodate the buyer, but you don't want an INR claim either.  My feeling is that most buyers are being honest and forthright in asking to ship to a different address and are probably unlikely to squawk (via an INR case) on that account alone.  However, if it's a gift and doesn't arrive within the time frame the buyer expects, that may be a different story, and you could end up with neutral or negative FB.

Still, there isn't much you can do if a buyer asks to have the item to sent to a different address after purchasing it.  Refund and/or cancel?  Well, refunding in full will likely get you a defect; cancelling -- even if you use the "wrong address" reason, will lose you a customer and may still get you neutral/negative FB (= a defect).  And there's the risk the buyer may not agree to the cancellation at all.  So at this point you're more or less d---d if you do, and d---d if you don't.

My choice, when I'm asked to ship to another address after the fact, is to fully insure the parcel, send it with tracking and DC, and keep my fingers crossed.  If the item isn't worth the tracking or insurance, then I just keep the fingers crossed and hope for the best.

One last point -- if you are going to use a tracked shipping service, I'd personally avoid Tracked Packet at this time of year.  That service just seems to slow the whole process down.  I'd choose Expedited Parcel, even if it costs a couple of dollars more.

Well, refunding in full will likely get you a defect; cancelling -- even if you use the "wrong address" reason

I don't think so. When you cancel an order one option that comes up is the "customer changed mind or there was a problem with the address." They are no longer choices on separate lines.

With that being said, I normally wouldn't cancel as I have sent a few items to a different address, especially at Christmas and haven't had a problem.  It's extra hassle for a buyer to buy and pay again so I would hesitate on doing that unless I had a really bad feeling about the transaction.

If the seller just refunds and the buyer pays again, changing the address at that time...I think that they may receive a defect because there is a refund with no cancellation.  As far as I know, ebay hasn't set up a way to do this without getting a defect but they really should as this is a common problem.

Buyer Request Different Shipping Address

Hi Idont know if this question will get answered because all the other replies were from 2014 and now is 2021. But its worth a try. I am new to eBay and listed a few items just yesterday but I get offers for the Buy Now Price immediately for all three items. However it looks suspicious that the offer is so fast but in one instance the ship to address  is secured secured secured US while the buyer location is in Malaysia and the buyer is also a eBay member sincie 2021.

It looks suspicious since I am new to eBay I dont know if I am protected or I, the buyer can be defrauded. I dont know how eBay manages the payout because I did not provide chequing account information. I have created and confirmed my PayPal within the eBay app and got verified but I was not given any explanation on how it works. Somebody please help me.

@christstyle, I suggest you copy and paste this into a brand new thread, as a moderator is likely going to shut this one down pretty quickly because of its age.

@christstyle

How to start a new thread: https://community.ebay.ca/t5/forums/postpage/category-id/11002/choose-node/true

If in Managed Payments you need a chequing account to receive your payouts.

If worried about an offer you can refuse the offer (or let it expire).

Many buyers outside of North America use freight fowarders to purchase stuff. The items are mailed to a location in the USA or Canada and then are forwarded to the buyer's home country (usually cheaper than buying direct, as multiple purchases can be grouped and forwarded together).

As the Seller, you are only responsible for delivering to the freight forwarder address.
