Buyer attempting to scam, PayPal decided in my favor. What to do with eBay Return Request?

Buyer attempting to scam, PayPal decided in my favor. What to do with eBay Return Request?

Figured I'd post here and see if anyone knows what to do before I call eBay.

Buyer received a fully functioning item, tried to return it as defective, but states in his claim device is indeed working. He disputed transaction at PayPal and they've since closed it and reversed his refund.

There still sits a 'Return Request' on eBay saying it will refund him with no option to cancel it or remove it.

It's usually a good idea to complete the eBay Dispute before opening a Paypal dispute.

And a credit card dispute after a Paypal dispute.

This is why.

Call Trust and Safety and explain the problem. Have notes about the dates of all the Disputes you opened, they may be useful to the clerk

If memory serves, if a buyer opens a PayPal case before eBay then eBay has the discretion to annul the MBG.

But you need to call in and speak to an agent or contact CS via Social Media.

Hi @veritas_83 -

@femmefan1946  gave you great input on this. I'd recommend contacting CS by phone (http://ebay.to/2A7jSZv) or social media (Twitter http://bit.ly/2jLDkoz or Facebook http://ebay.to/2A5vufv), so they can look into the situation.

In general however, if a buyer goes outside of eBay services to pursue a return/refund, that should prevent them from being able to pursue that within the eBay channel. At the very least, it should disallow us from being asked to step in. Thanks!

Off topic. I thought abbreviated links that you use above were not allowed on eBay listings and forums too. The reason being is that they hide the actual link embedded inside and there is no way to know if the link is real or a link to a bad site.  Obviously you being an eBay staff member would not do this. But in using the abbreviated link format you encourage their use. What is ebay policy on using them in forums or listings?

off topic again.  The link call Guidelines top right is a dead link on eBay.ca forums. It works on eBay.com forums.

Hi @richardcm  - thanks for the follow up on this. URL-shortening sites aren't allowed to be used within listings and I appreciate the suggestion regarding our forums as well.

I've gotten the dead Guidelines link reported for an update as well, thanks for the heads-up!

eBay ended up deciding in my favor as well.

I had to wait for the refund request to expire before I could "Ask eBay to step in", And then in that I cited the PayPal Case ID and a brief description of what happened.
