Buyers cancelling bids and orders, what it going on!!!

Been an eBay member since 2003 and have bought and sold many times over the years. I recently decided to sell some stuff after a few years off and it seems like such a different enviroment than before! I like to do auction style listings, which seem very rare now, and I think I understand why. On the 20 listings I have put up I have had 3 people cancel bids on active auctions, 2 that have asked for their winning bids to be cancelled, and 2 that have not decided to pay at all (from experienced eBayers to boot!). What the heck!

Is this just unlucky, or are other sellers seeing the same thing on auction style listings?

For what it's worth, thanks to a glitch that occurred when another organization was operating the discussion boards, my habitual ID doesn't work for posting purposes.  You wouldn't get much of a sense of my selling history from it anyway as most of the sales my wife and I made on eBay were off her ID.

Hi @ricarmic

Thank you. Finally at least one "boardie" is forthgiving.

. My quirie was sent to @reallynicestamps but I appreciate your intervention.

A posting ID is simply an unused ID (of theirs) that the poster is using.

Its either a new ID that they set up specifically for use here, or it is a secondary ID that they rarely use.

There are valid reasons why one might not want to use ones "real" id, for fear of pushback, problems from other posters. That is probably less likely here than on the US boards."

 Hi @ricarmic

Thank you for speaking on @reallynicestamps behalf.

"  No one seems to have a definitive answer as to why or how this is possible.  I couldn't see any option in settings for a seller to choose an alternate.  If it's a choice I'm sure people have a reason. I just don't see anywhere you can make the choice. "

I never questioned why a seller would do this.  I didn't just fall off the turnip truck. That's obvious. After more than a decade here in the forum my question is, how do they do it?

How?

In my experience folks who choose to assist only on the grounds of anonymity are to be avoided.

I have no issue with any seller, current or retired who chooses to contribute. As an old dog since '69 myself I simply request eBay changes the "View Listings" link to indicate the poster's status.  Actively Selling/ Platinum Associate. For example I have no idea what  @marnotom!  is refering to with the comment that is obviously a secret from the rest of us.

"Just to add to @pjcdn2005's post, it might be a worse problem for you given the merchandise you sell."

No disrespect. Some of us list  to make ends meet and we come to the forum to find answers that are public.  Thanks to the "secret society" the rest of us aren't priviliged to know what the OP sells.

---------

But you do realize now that there is no secret. Marnotom just looked at the sold listings to see what the seller has recently sold. Anyone can do that once they know that it can be done.

@marnotom!  I should  have said that you're not a current seller, I realize that you used to sell with your wife.

@pjcdn2005  @ricarmic

Thank you both for shedding light on this.

It's always been a mystery to me. eBay's platform changes so often but the community forum doesn't. The alternate posting IDs seem to be getting more popular and I keep running into them. I thought there might be a new option in preferences or something.

I was trying to get ideas to help boost my sales from the other forum. In Canada there aren't  many similar music memorbilia sellers to tap off of. I found some but sure enough they're using posting IDs. Memorabilia is a fairly defensive category. Many of the sellers buy on eBay to resell on eBay. So I guess I just answered my own question as to the anonymity. ! Ha ha.

  Thanks again.

Have a Merry Christmas!

Some people also have multiple stores (and hence multiple IDs), so they're not necessarily trying to hide anything.

Nothing new.

Just a different ID used only for posting. Or mostly for buying but sometimes for posting.

I have seven IDs of whichfour are active as selling accounts. I tend to use a different account for buying stuff for resale since each account has a different focus. Like if I sold  reborn babies, I might buy doll clothes on the account where I sold motorcycle parts.

Just open another account. You will need a different email for each though.

Thank you. I didn't know you could have more than one.

Babies huh? You sure have an eclectric range of interests.

I should open an account for the Martian space junk that keeps falling in my back yard.

thanks @reallynicestamps
