Canada Post picking up once a day?

An employee at a Canada Post outlet on Vancouver Island informed me Canada Post is no longer picking up mail twice a day from their outlets. From this point forward it will be only once a day.

I've tried to Google this information but have come up with zilch.

I figure posting this here would be better than not posting it at all.

This info absolutely floored me.

If true, I may have to adjust my handling days from 2 to 3 or more.

I wonder what genius thought this would be a great idea so close to the Christmas season?

Canada Post is massively overcharging to ship mail & becoming more incompetent in doing their jobs!   I thought paper, documents & photos were fine to ship to the US as first class mail.  Not as small packets.  I, clearly, mark on each envelope 'photo - please do not bend' for anything I slip between cardbaord to protect from creasing.  Yet - 4 small envelopes were returned to me for insufficient postage simply because I did not send them as small packets.  They cannot read??   CP & USPS are really damaging small sellers on eBay!  Mail gets returned by CP or undelivered by USPS.  7 refund requests in 2 weeks because of this nonsense!

This has nothing to do with Canada Post and everything to do with the USPS, which clearly states that rigid items are handled differently (either as non-machinable which costs extra and probably isn't available to inbound mail, or as a package). CP should be making it more clear, but your issue seems to be the rigidity rather than the contents which is something that is not under their control.

Re: Canada Post picking up once a day?

where iam my local post office(shoppers drug mart) for the last 5 years have had only once a day pickup mail going out- exactly at 2pm - if i wanted later in the same  day i had to go to the postoffice building which is really far aways from me and its at 4pm last out going mail from that goverment post office building -- so if you have been getting twice a day out going mail for this long your are lucky--- i  have missed many day delivery by mintues and then had to drive 45 minutes away  to get to the post office proper when   my customer insisted that  same day delivery out  which many do ---always asking if i can get it out in the mail that  same day  i try to help out when i can  sometimes i fail -- then they get next day delivery early morning -- even though i have longer set times on my listings that doesn't stop them from asking  welcome to the real world of canada post--

Re: Canada Post picking up once a day?

Street boxes may have a pickup time on them, but it is just an indication as far as I can tell. I have seen the 3pm pickup at one box I use frequently being emptied at 1:30 pm.
Now when I am posting from the box, I drop a domestic envelope in first and listen to decide if it fell on bare metal (meaning any other mail has already been picked up) or on a pile of other envelopes waiting for the truck.

If the box has been emptied, I can go to the box two blocks away which promises to be picked up before 9am and is usually cleared before noon.

This is all untracked lettermail so no one but me knows when I mailed it.

@dinomitesales   In your experience, is the PO advertising for holiday workers this year?

I wouldn't know as I just work at an authorized dealer location. They always need additional holiday staff though.

If the Shoppers Drug Mart I work at is any indication though, expect many authorized dealers to be severely shortstaffed this holiday season (expect longer than normal wait times).
