HI everyone
I just noticed past few months Ebay has been charging a tax for all my buyers from the states. Is this new? I haven't seen this before. I obviously don't get the money, ebay collects it directly when the buyer pays. I've had a few buyers ask me about this. I don't have any options to gray out tax on invoice or any account settings. Does this apply to Canadian sellers, I thought only sellers in the USA were to charge tax for their state? I'm not a big seller so I'm a little confused. I obviously want the best for my customers. Can someone shine a light on this? Thank you

It is the USA States governments that have pushed for the right to charge tax on internet/online purchases. This internet tax will not only affect eBay, it will affect all selling venues and it matters not where the seller is located; the tax is collected for the state of the buyer/where the item is being shipped to, and now it is up to the buyer to be in the know, the buyers need to be educated about this tax. Buyers need to know that it is not the site's doing, not the seller's doing, it is their USA governing bodies that have instituted this sales tax.

As a seller there is nothing we can do regarding taxes with transactions to the various US states. I'm not sure what else could have been done to advise Buyers and Sellers these taxes were in play or in play eventually(States down the road). Possibly a bit more advanced advertising by both parties should have happened so everyone would be in the loop and not be shocked when they hit the old pay now button or checked their PayPal balances. Until everyone catches on, sellers could include a packing slip that actually shows an explanation of the taxes being charged on their order based on state regulations and it's not a pulled from the air charge by a seller.
The bigger issue is charging fees on this computer generated transfer of state taxes as if it is revenue for a seller. It is not!!! End of story. This was handled poorly from the get go. Between both parties...eBay AND PayPal!!! Any remorse by them....Probably not!!!

No ebay was doing it properly, before they got paypal , involved, The problem was too many buyers were questioning why they were receiving an additional bill for more money. So rather then explaining it to millions of buyers, they decided to stick it down the throats of the sellers.
Tell me i am wrong.
