Canadians are the worst lowballers...

What is it with Canadians and their lowball offers? I get low offers from Americans, sure, but usually they don't go 30% below asking price - which seems pretty reasonable. Canadians are sometimes offering 50-75% below of my asking. WT...???

I auto-reject anything below the 30% mark, but every once in a while when I adjust prices on older listings, I go check to see what lower offers I've received that were auto-rejected. Almost all Canadians, and all hideously below my already very low prices.

Like, for example, I see this frequently: I have lots of larger items, like bottles of creams or sprays - heavy and bulky. I'm asking $40 -$50 (knowing it's gonna cost around $20 no matter who I ship to). I get offers for $15-$20 from Canadians. Most times it doesn't even cover shipping.

Are Canadians so retail poor that they go on Ebay making lowball offers on anything that's a best offer listing? Never mind being clueless about shipping costs (just because I list with free shipping doesn't ACTUALLY mean shipping is FREE)! I offer better prices than ALL my US competitors, so they aren't going to buy from someone else. Strikes me as though some of them simply have fun seeing how low some sellers are willing to go and if they can just get a smoking deal.

I'm so glad Ebay has the auto reject feature. If I had to deal with those kinds of lowball multiple times per week, I doubt I'd use the best offer option again!

"we cant afford the USd price thanks to trudeau’s influence on the canadian dollar"

My listings are in CAD, which doesn't stop the bottomfeeders messaging me and wasting my time with unrealistic ridiculous offers.

If I wanted offers, I'd have a button in each of my listings.

Is that Trudeau's fault also?

As a seller I like the low loonie.

I can buy a book for a loonie, list it at U$10 with Free Shipping and make an acceptable profit. The exchange pays for my postage.

I'm not big into accepting offers but I find that USA is actually worse. Last one I got was a $3 offer on a  $34 item with free shipping. They eventually bumped up to $10 but I just ignored.

A lot of low ballers want to scoop the item and then resell it themselves.

Re: Canadians are the worst lowballers...

Yes, but do you ever make an offer on an item that includes free shipping that is less than the shipping cost?

This is what my buyers are doing and it seems either totally idiotic or extremely douchey...

Re: Canadians are the worst lowballers...

Most buyers are buyers. I believe the claim that sellers are our important buyers is false.

As a result most of our customer have no idea of the cost of shipping. I was at a stamp show yesterday and had to inform a gaggle of philatelists that the cost of shipping a 30 gr letter is now 92cents. You'd think that would be one group that would be aware of mailing costs, but like most of the public they have no clue.

So underestimating the cost of shipping is understandable.

There is a post just today from a member claiming that she can import stained glass windows from Britain for $25!  The actual cost is from £71 to £92 for a small piece. (And that would ignore packaging costs for the glass.)
