Canadians no longer allowed to list on Ebay.com due to managed payments

So a ebay representative just called me back as I enquired about ebay managed payments. She informed me that as a resident of Canada I can no longer list on ebay.com and need to switch the 200 plus listings over to ebay.ca.

Thanks ebay only 99% of my sales are to the US and its so easy to manually switch over 200 listings to ebay.ca right?

The eBay representative is WRONG. You can continue to list on eBay.COM if you wish....

It's just more eBay incompetence from the CS Dept.

I'm so confused about this managed payments right now, what a mess.  That's  why I called ebay. I wanted some clarity on this situation and that is pretty much verbatim what she told me. Just for the record it wasn't their over seas call center either.

Managed Payments is a mess... eBay doesn't know whether their coming or going.

The weekly chat this Wednesday was dedicated to Managed Payments. You should have posted your questions there....

If you were not speaking to a Managed Payments specialist then you were talking to a know nothing.

Canada sellers can continue to list on .com, payments for sales will be converted to CA$ by eBay and then sent to your bank. The conversion rates are essentially the same as you would get from PayPal.

The difference?

1 - You don't get to pick and choose what date to convert

2 - you can't accumulate US$ to spend on purchases from US Sellers (on or off eBay)

3 - You cannot withdraw US$ to a US Based Bank.

Number 1 & 2 are set in stone there will not be a way around this. Number 3 is something that eBay has stated they are planning to have a solution which would allow revenue from US Dollar sales to be sent to US Based banks without conversion. They have not provided a time frame for this but given that tens of thousands of sellers are asking for this ability I do believe it is something that will happen at some point.

There is NOTHING other than the above that will prevent any seller from any country having the ability to list directly on any eBay site.

Call centre jobs are coveted overseas.

Steady pay, clean workplaces and a chance to practice English which is a help if you are looking to emigrate.

So they attract well-educated and intelligent workers.

Call centres in North America are low paid and considered as sweatshops. They are often located  in low wage/high unemployment areas.

They attract people who can't find other work and don't want to move.

EBay's customer service is about as good as they will pay for.

There has been an indication that eBay will not immediately convert a Canadian seller to Managed Payments,  if that seller sells on eBay.com in US dollars, even if the seller  has registered for Managed Payments.

These Canadian sellers do very well on eBay.com.

It appears that eBay is definitely planning to have an option where Canadian sellers can sell in US dollars on eBay.com  and have their US dollars transferred to a US dollar bank account....

If eBay  does not deal with these sellers in an acceptable manner..... there will be many unhappy Canadian sellers who have developed a successful business selling in US dollars on eBay.com

There are numerous reports on the dot com discussion board for people trying to sign up for Managed Payments, having issues and then not being able to find a Contact eBay CS dedicated to the program as was originally announced. Followed by major frustration.

A lot of those complainers are having problems because of irregularities in THEIR information and/or refusing to provide the requested documentation.

There are also a bunch that no matter how many times they are told it has to be a checking account insist of signing up with a savings account. Another problem, in the US there is widespread use of very small local banks and credit unions which eBay/Adyen cannot process automatically, that is a non-issue for 99% of Canadians.

I had no trouble signing up, needed to do extra verification because because of a name mismatch, used the Government Photo ID option which took 10 days since it required manual verification by eBay/Adyen. I received my confirmation today that the verification is complete and I'm in the queue.

It took me several days to get all of the information for registering....

With the correct  information and documentation registration was completed within two hours... 9:00 Am to 11:00 AM.... This was May 12.....

Then notice was received at about 6:00 PM of the same day  indicating I had registered successfully for Managed Payments.

Received a notice from Auctiva (day before yesterday, July 7) that they are ready for all users that will be using Managed Payments.  Auctiva is used to prepare listings for placement on eBay.  The link between eBay and Auctiva was re-confirmed.

Managed Payments... Here I come.......

Does Auctiva do the same things as TurboLister? Will it work with Macs (which TL didn't).

Why does talking about Auctiva make me want to have yogurt with my fresh Island-grown strawberries tonight?

Here's a good thread to read on the eBay.COM boards (especially pages 3 and 4).

Auctiva was one of the first option to prepare listings for eBay.

It was one time where they sat down with eBay to make Auctiva the best.

Mac.... I do not know   .....Contact Auctiva and find out

Either that or buy a new computer with Windows 10.....

So, is that why TL is ending 2 days before MP begins? They couldn’t make it work with MP? What about all the other listing services? I switched over to WonderLister but haven’t seen any mention of it being compatible (or not) with Managed Payments. I wonder if all these companies are having to adjust their API  because of managed payments?

Contact Wonderlister.

TL has been in a .....not to be used .... situation for many years now.

For me TL died  and could not be used in August 2014.....

an option where Canadian sellers can sell in US dollars on eBay.com and have their US dollars transferred to a US dollar bank account....

The question is not just if the money can be transferred to a US dollar account.

The question is if the money can be transferred to an American bank account, with an American bank.

EBay has also made the blunder of refusing to explain what is involved with Managed Payments until the seller is trapped into signing up.

Lack of trust on both sides.

I don't know the fees, I don't know about currencies (and apparently eBay has not even thought about that since they have not been able to answer repeated questions over several months), I don't know how Disputes will be handled, I don't know how sellers are protected against Paypal and credit card claims, I don't know whether I can hold my payments for a time if I am saving up for a bid purchase, and eBay is not making Terms and Conditions public until the seller is actually signed up.

I have to close all my listings before the 14th for other reasons, but I may take a while to consider where I'm going with my business after hearing the Canadian sellers' responses to Managed Payments.

Not sure if there is any truth to it but supposedly US sellers are blocked from selling on dot ca. And they are not happy about it. If we are setting up clubs for the unhappy...How many will there be?
