As I dip into the "cookie jar" insurance fund today I realized we've turned "cookie jars" into bad things now!
Oh I wish I was back at grandmas getting a real cookie out of a real cookie jar, instead of refunding some electronic cash out of a figurative cookie jar all the while gathering defects!

I'm one of the oddballs that loves fruitcake .... especially with the thick almond paste icing. I'm thrilled when someone gives me one for Christmas. Anyone want my address? LOL

I'm with you, especially with the almond icing -- yummm! Better still, maybe I can find an old-fashioned recipe and send it to you.

Thanks for the offer rose-dee. I have such a small kitchen now that I've given up on baking ... store bought desserts only

I too love fruitcake - marzipan icing, cherries and all the bits & bobs - yummy!

I didn't grow up with fruitcake but now I buy homemade fruitcake at a craft show ever year. They usually sell out by noon.
Awesome cake!
And we already ate this year's supply.

Did anyone else keep the top layer of her wedding cake for use as the christening cake of her first child?
Ours was eleven years old by the time DD came along. So much rum in the cake -- to help it keep-- the minister was giggling.
I've put marzipan on my shopping list, thanks for the reminder.
Still trying to find fruit sugar for my shortbread.

That's berry sugar, right? I've always been able to find it at Sobey's. I use it to rim glasses for fruity drinks.

No Sobey's in Victoria apparently, but there are Thrifty's which seem to be part of the same chain.
Thank you for the tip and the alternate name.

Femme -- is there a Canada Safeway in Victoria? I was just at one in my neighbourhood and saw a 1 kg bag of Berry Sugar (Rogers) for $3.59.
