E bay, Its Christmas. How about a little advertising.

I cant speak for everyone , but it hasn't exactly been a stellar year as far as sales. I

know that Ebay has put us sellers through some challenges this year without any attempt to repair the situation. Looking at their last quarter one can understand why.

I was really hoping that E bay would take some pity on us and do a bit of Christmas advertising this year. I know that they know what this is, because all you  have to do is look at the amount of TV spots they have put up for KIJIJI.

How about it E bay. For us little folks. Give us a Christmas present. You have certainly have done well for yourself this year.

Your request makes no sense. Since eBay has had a great year with great sales, what do they need to do more advertising for?

Besides, every time I turn my computer on, there is the eBay icon for me to click on. constant advertising for people on computers.

eBay is in the middle of their biggest media spend ever!

http://adage.com/article/cmo-strategy/ebay-launches-global-brand-campaign/295347/

"EBay is not a huge measured media spender, despite its well-known brand name. It spent $51 million on U.S. measured media in 2013, including subsidiaries PayPal and StubHub, according to Kantar Media."

Presumably this new campaign will mean they will break the $50M figure for 2014.

No one disputes Ebay has had a good year and why advertise. They could still give us a bone.

I can say it was the worse year I have had since being on Ebay.  Increasing the amount of free listings doesn't necessarily mean more sale, only more competition for the remaining buyers. ( many of the buyers being us, the sellers)

I dont know what advertising your seeing, unless your talking about the ocean of advertising that is on every site the internet carries. After A while its all a blur.

Television would be nice. 100,000 other advertisers cant be wrong.

Thanks for the link. I read it it . Sure sounds good, but where are they placing the advertisements. If I have noticed any of the mentioned launch of this big campaign, I would have not placed this post. Hopefully they are at least targeting US, because it just dosent seem to be anything in Canada.

Re: E bay, Its Christmas. How about a little advertising.

I haven't seen any eBay advertising.  But maybe its just me.  I spend all my waking hours in front of the computer trying to get sales.  I haven't seen much of those lately either.

My experience as well!  I'm on and off the computer all day and evening.  Not just eBay -- but shopping sites, entertainment sites, news websites, both Canadian and American.  I haven't seen any eBay advertising anywhere.

This is the perfect time to encourage people to consider eBay as a holiday shopping site.

Actually Ebay has been running TV ads for the past 2 or 3 weeks.  See them on various channels almost every night.  They are fairly generic, unspectacular looking ads, but it's still surprising to see them running so often.  Maybe they finally figured that "IT PAYS TO ADVERTISE".  Smiley Tongue

I saw an eBay ad on the morning newscast out of Seattle a couple of weeks ago.

In my opinion which is based on few years of selling and related observations, the drastic drop of visitors and therefore buyers, is caused by discontinued friendship between eBay and Google (no longer "buddies").

Unfortunately, I haven't seen a TV ad in years (a little exaggeration) :).  I'm usually fast forwarding through them on my PVR or, if watching live TV, reading the newspaper, getting a cup of coffee, whatever.  But it's good to hear they're there.

There is no question that the dispute between eBay and Goggle last May has resulted in fewer hits.  The problem with the security breach resulting in eBay asking all members to reset their password - around the same time in May - also had a negative impact on hits.

However, we have to look at the BIG PICTURE.  Despite the problems experienced in May, reality is that eBay's marketplace gross volume (sales by eBay sellers) has grown by 9% in the third quarter (July/September).

For more information: http://investor.ebayinc.com/financial_releases.cfm

Unfortunately, reading all posts on this "Seller Central" board, it seems that Canadian sellers did not share in that growth.

Would you not agree that as Ebay since introducing more  free listings and free listing specials that this may have also introduced more Ebay sellers. If this maybe so, could it have actually dropped individual sellers percentage over years ago?

I think I will see a UFO sooner than an Ebay commercial, but I want to believe. LOL
