I notice that dotCOM has a 500 Free Listings (auction or fixed price) .
Prepare to have your good stuff flooded out by the usual unsaleable trash.

Thanks for posting this! Now that my sick laptop is out of the techie ICU, I can get back to work, just in time to shut down for Christmas.
I have to wonder why eBay is still giving out auction freebies. Now that eBay has got buyers used to the instant gratification of the cart, surely there can't be too many buyers who want to bother with them anymore.

I suspect it's branding.
I think eBay is the only auction site left, almost certainly the only major one.
Because it's passe, as you said.
But it does differentiate them.
And those low opening prices may encourage buyer to think there are bargains here.
I'm not saying it's a Good strategy.

You say it is 500 auction OR fixed price. 500 fixed price would be welcome as I have a bunch of new items to list. Could you provide a link? I see no such offer when I check ebay.com. Thanks.

There is also an offer of half off selling fees for 10 items for the next 3 days only. Again its for USA users, not CDNs.

Probably just another invite-only offer. I don't see anything either -- I qualified for one .com offer this year.

Lol Lol come on Ebay give us 5000 free listings my Turbo Lister is swamped with listings just waiting for me to hit the Load Up Button cause I sure as hell wont pay 0.34 per listing to list 5000 let alone 100. So let hope Ebay Canada doesn't give us just a lump of coal to finish the year. when you want need free listings nothing happens and when you don't want any ebay just gives them out every 2nd month
12-03-2017 06:36 PM
wow that's odd I logged into Ebay.com side and it shows for my monthly free listings 50 zero used I then relogged back into the Ebay.ca side and it shows from the 50 monthly free listings used 26 as I have and 24 remain.
And also shows on the Ebay.com side that I had invite for November 1000 free listings but has expired so go figure that one out
as I tried to use 1 of the 50 free listing on the ebay.com side and it just automatically changes to the ebay.ca once the item description listing page comes up. then I wonder who running the ITT ebay team

Not sure if it will work but try logging out of .ca and then going to .com and logging in there.

@tellephoto
Again its for USA users, not CDNs.
You do know that Canadians (or anyone)can list on dotCOM, right?
The parameters are that listing is only in US dollars and shipping must be Flat Rate.
The currency thing is across all the sites. If we list on dotGermany, we list in euros. If we list on dotIndia, we list in rupees.
Flat Rate shipping because each site is set up to process only that nation's postal service (and some domestic couriers).
So list on dotCOM, and get the Free Listings.
Some of us believe we also get a tiny boost in views if not sales because we are listing in USD, and while all the world understands USD, Americans understand nothing else.
And if your item can ship by LetterPost /Light Packet *,you're looking at Flat Rates anyway, anywhere you want to ship.
*Under 500 gms. Under 2cm thick. And since there can be no tracking, not painful to lose if worse comes to worst.

cause I sure as hell wont pay 0.34 per listing to list 5000 let alone 100.
You should look into opening a Store.
http://www.subs.ebay.ca/feeweb/feeillustrator
You can get between 250 and 1000 'free' listings every month -- for a fee that really means your listing fee drops from 34cents to between three cents and ten cents depending on which level you subscribe to.
You can get monthly as well as annual subscriptions.
it shows for my monthly free listings 50 zero used
If you are listing on dotCOM and on dotCA, you get 50 Free Listings on each site each month.
Our American colleagues don't seem to realize that, or if they do, they are too paranoid to take advantage.
I mostly use dotCA for listings that I will have to use Parcel rates for, and dotCOM for those that can go flat LetterPost/LightPacket.

Our American colleagues don't seem to realize that, or if they do, they are too paranoid to take advantage.
A bit of both....they don't realize it and if they did they would be too paranoid (if they even understood the difference between a Canadian Dollar and a US Dollar).
I wondered if the both site deal was available to US Sellers so I just checked with my US based id and lo and behold I am offered 50 free on both sites. I have never ever seen this mentioned on the US boards.
They also don't know about the TRS discount deal that Canadian sellers get.
12-04-2017 11:07 AM
My point is that CDN sellers are no longer getting any promos period. While our American friends do. All the promos are by invitation only and I am not invited as I am in Canada. The joke here is that some sellers believe that Ebay does not need to hand out free promos as Ebay already has enough listings......which is complete BS. So explain then why USA sellers regularly get promos like 500 two weeks ago and now 1000 while us CDNs get none. Someone in Canada is asleep at the wheel.
12-04-2017 03:10 PM
Promotions are done for the good of eBay.
Not the sellers or the buyers.
If eBayCANADA believe they need more listings, they will offer a Promotion in that category.
If they think they need more Auctions (a dying part of eBay, but an important part of public understanding of the brand) they offer Free Auctions.*
If they need more sportscard listings, or sneaker listings, or reborn baby listings, or Kubota tractor listings, they will have a promotion in those categories only.
And as you note, many Free Listing offers are in specific categories.
Because promotions are for the good of eBay and eBay is short of listings in that category.
So--
We get 50 Free Listings on dotCA and another on dotCOM.
We can have reduced cost listings by opening a Store.
We can get better positioning in Search by using Free Shipping**.
The more we list, the more we can sell. And the more we sell the better we do in Search.
And the more we sell, the better our chances of getting the TRS discounts.
*And get ignored by most sellers who understand that Fixed Price and Buy It Now are much more likely to lead to sales than Auctions.
**Which is just putting the cost of shipping into the asking price for the item.
Which is cheaper: a $5 item with $2 shipping or a $7 item with Free Shipping?
12-12-2017 07:44 AM
Complete BS.......Ebay Canada is a very small market in comparison to the USA. Yet Ebay USA is constantly handing out free listing promos and Canada simply doesn't. Here is another free listing promo again by invite only and for USA.

Totally agree! It's ALL complete BS to the core. So tired of seeing us Canadian sellers getting shafted. For me, dot CA has become such a useless venture that I have moved 99% of my items elsewhere. Have sold more elsewhere in the past few weeks than I have on eBay. Oh well eBay will never miss my listings anyway...
