I haven't had that problem but it would be annoying if it happened a lot. If it is a real problem you could turn on the out of stock option in selling preferences. When the item is purchased the quantity will go to 0 and won't be seen by buyers. If the buyer cancels, change the 0 to 1 so that the listing is visible again. There will be no relist fee. Once the item has been sent you can end the listing manually.

This has been one of the worst years for me for cancellations & non-paying buyers. I have had quite a few in the last few months. These cancellations are not just from new buyers but a lot are coming from long time buyers & even sellers who should know better. This is very frustrating for us as sellers. I have heard that some other sites charge a buyers's fee to help curb those who don't pay or cancel. Maybe eBay should implement something like that.

The problem with that is, depending on your return policy, the buyer may just make you ship it and then return it to avoid the small fee. That's far worse for a seller than a cancellation.
