HOW WOULD YOU DEAL WITH A BLOCKED BIDDER THAT USED ANOTHER I.D TO PURCHASE AN ITEM?

tyler@ebay

I sold a very expensive photograph today and when I sent an invoice I recognized the name and address. I blocked them less than 6 months ago for non payment ( I had opened a unpaid item depute against them).

The buyer used a different I.D to circumvent my Blocked Bidders List to purchase the item.

Should I give them a few days to see if they pay then open an unpaid item dispute (I allow 7 days for payment as per my item description)?

Should I cancel using problem with buyers address?

I don't want to wait for 7 days to open a unpaid item claim (as per my description) and want to relist.

It's very frustrating.....

if you can prove it is the same person, just call ebay and report them for buyer fraud.  You cant do what this guy did, its a serious policy breach.  I've found as long as you can clearly document the breach, you are good to go - they'll be punted and the transaction will be cancelled.  In 2018 I had a matryoshka doll type customer in Europe who each time I blocked for non payment he would create a new id to buy (and not pay for) the same items.  He was extraordinarily petty as well as persistent, doing this like 7 or 8 times, but in the end all of his ids were banned as I was able to prove it was the same person.

Is it a policy violation? Do you have a link that you can attach stating this policy?

Although you have a generous seven day policy, there is no reason for you to wait in this case.

Open the UID as soon as the fourth day arrives and close it four days later.

You don't have to give the deadbeat the same courtesy you give to good buyers who are slow payers. Your rules and your exceptions.

I don't block non-payers specifically but if they get blocked by the 2 non-payments in the past 12 months and ask I will exempt 99% of the time.

If a previous non-payer finding themselves blocked used another id to purchase AND pay I would be happy to accept their money.

One never knows the reason for a non-payment but it really doesn't matter.....I like money.

Depends on why I blocked them... I blocked someone before who made an offer and when I looked at her feedback history, she trashed many sellers with negs so I blocked her. Then she got their mom to buy-it-now, so I cancelled and refunded the order. Man, that mom was pretty nasty in her messages too, accusing me of having that best offer button and then blocked her daughter from buying because I wasn't happy with her offer. I didn't tell her that I blocked her or that I cancelled her because of the feedback history, but eh, with that horrible attitude I'd rather lose the PP fees for refund lol.

And then that book seems to became cursed and is still here unsold, despite the price lower than other sellers selling the same book lol.

If it's a buyer who had a UPI strike before and they paid immediately (with new account) this time around... and if the order itself wasn't too expensive, I'd just ship and see how it goes.

I would do this if I were you. And if they don't pay again and they try a third time, then I would call eBay. It's just fair to give buyers a second chance. Who knows? This buyer may become a regular customer...

Hi @silverpinups - this behaviour is against policy (reference here). You're well within your rights to cancel the transaction as 'issue with buyer's address'.

However, with that said, I think that others have given some alternative views that you may want to consider.

Ultimately it's up to you - I think you should trust your gut on this one. Thanks!

Not allowedNot allowed

You can't buy with the intent to disrupt a listing.

Here are some examples:

  • You can't place a bid that greatly exceeds the value of the item in order to prevent a sale without intending to buy that item
  • You can't bid on multiple items listed by a seller unless you intend to buy all of the items
  • You can't try to buy or bid on an item if you're on a seller's blocked bidder or buyer list
  • You can't use another account to buy or bid on an item if you're on a seller's blocked bidder or buyer list

tyler@ebay  Thanks for the reply!

I phoned eBay customer service and they recommended cancelling the transaction using "problem with buyers address".

Customer Service also confirmed that the  two I.D's were in fact the same person (just needed to double check).

I also immediately relisted the item and reported the buyer for the policy violation.

So I hope they do not retaliate with Negative Feedback.

So onwards and upwards I guess....

Thanks to everyone who replied to this thread.

Pretty sure u can get that Neg removed if they do. Even the mom I talked about didn't neg me. Maybe I wasn't the first one to cancel their orders lol

As soon as I cancelled last week I got a message from the buyer...

Hello
I was just getting ready to complete payment for this photo and I received a message that it was cancelled?

I responded to the message:

Hi,

You circumvented my Blocked Bidder List by using a different I.D to purchase another Marilyn Monroe photograph from me. I originally put you on my BBL list for not purchasing Orig 1953 MARILYN MONROE - Director, HENRY HATHAWAY Candid on-set.. "NIAGARA" using eBay I.D "               " along with a few other I.D's over the years....

Today I get a bid from a different buyer for the exact same amount I counter offered the first bidder which was accepted.

Just a coincidence? Or are they using a friends I.D to purchase from me again?

Be sure it is tracked or you might get some funny business happening.

It's from another state but the bidder sent an offer for the exact amount I counter-offered the previous bidder. I let their offer expire by not responding to it and they just offered again for the same amount.

You would think a new bidder that has never bid on anything from me before would be offended by me not responding to their first offer.

Something fishy is going on....

Everything I sell goes with a tracking number and this particular photo will go Canada Post Xpresspost when I do sell it.

It's a very healthy offer but I don't trust the bidder....
