Have you tried to set up a secondary account on .ca and have it immediately permantently suspended??

Longtime account holder on .com, forced to set up an account on .ca in order to continue selling on .com. I'm Canadian and reached the $600 USD threshold that the IRS has imposed on sellers it believes resides in the US.

Since eBay does not allow for the changing of countries in the personal info section, they advised me to set up an account on .ca, which I did. I then listed an item and within an hour, received notification that my account was permanently suspended. The email suggested contacting them if I believed it was done in error. So I did...

I then got stuck with the chat feature and an agent who repeatedly stated we're parting ways with you and won't tell you why. Extremely frustrating!

Has anyone had a similar experience with a positive outcome after connecting with the right employee??

All the $600 thing means is that eBay will send US residents notice that they have received payments of $600USD or more in the previous tax year.

That's $600 BEFORE deductions, like eBay fees, postage and packaging, etc.

Since you don't reside in the USA, this is irrelevant to you.

File it with all your other bookkeeping.

However, you do need a Managed Payments account to get paid. And your account has to be in the country you are registered in.

That means for a dotCA account, a chequing account with a Canadian bank.

Part of confirming identity is an exact match between your eBay information and your banking information.

Another part is showing acceptable ID. I used my passport. DH used his driving license.  Again names have to match.

Occasional sellers like yourself do face more difficulties than those with steady sales, even if those sales are low value.

You might want to look at the many posts from Canadian sellers who had been using a grandfathered US registered account for tips on how to get MP set up and how to switch to an eBay Canada account.

But saying you want to make the switch to avoid US taxes probably was not helpful.

What was the item you listed under the new ID? (ie was it something that could be considered counterfeit like clothing or shoes or jewelry)

I've noticed a number of folks on the boards in the same situation where the reason for the permanent supsension will not be explained. It seems odd to me that the reason wouldn't be disclosed, I can't imagine what situation would create a risk to advise the reason for the suspension, especially when the support folks can see the seller has been here for 20 years.

Were you trying to associate the same email address with both eBay accounts?

I called the .com site, since there doesn't appear to be such a thing at .ca, and had the account reinstated. I'm now trying to get the currency set to USD. When I created the account last night, no such question was asked, but their website states sellers on .ca can select USD for payouts when they set up managed payments.

You need a USD checking account with an American bank  - check the TD for a TDNorth account or Royal for RBCBank.

Those are basically set up for snowbirds. They are US banks with (obviously) strong Canadian connections.

US bank fees can be higher that Canadian ones.

You may also need a US address. A mailbox is generally fine.

Yes Canadian sellers who are registered in Canada can use a Canadian bank account that is held in US dollars.

My arithmetic is not up to deciding how currency exchange works and whether the seller is better off with a USD or loonie account.

But I'm pretty sure the bank doesn't lose a cent.

This is all wrong!

Under Managed Payments the only people who can register on .com are users which are legal residents of the US. Unless you are a dual citizen with an SSN or Green Card holder (setting aside Corporate accounts).

Once you start the registration process on .com you are basically screwed and only via setting up a brand new .ca account AND getting assistance from a Managed Payments specialist will you get a proper sign uip. If you try to do it on your own the accounts will continues to get suspended until eBay no longer wants you in any shape or form and there is no coming back from that.

I stand corrected.

There was a short period , I believed, that grandfathered dotCOM accounts could use a US bank without being resident in the USA.

Thank you for making the situation clearer.

Aside from the annoyance of having to rebuild our account on dotCA , as so many of us did when we could no longer post here in USD, remember that no matter where we are registered we can list on any eBay site worldwide.
And we can ship from other countries than the one we are registered in, like US -registered sellers dropshipping from Chinese suppliers.
