Hmm what does: "Delivery may be delayed due to public authority" mean??

When I'm shipping, I always check the tracking number against CP to make sure I typed it in ok.

Today when I got to the CP main tracking page, I happened to notice that all the showing previously checked tracked packets have this statement on them: "Delivery may be delayed due to public authority"

Not sure what that means? I couldn't find a descripion of what that really means at the CP website but I might have missed something??

@ricarmic

Google search brought up this:

A "Delivery may be delayed due to public authority message" typically means that a package delivery might be delayed because of restrictions or situations imposed by local government authorities, such as road closures, weather emergencies, quarantine measures, or other events that impact delivery services in the area.

CP may be in the process of updating their status messages due to these about to maybe happen tariffs.

Here is the most current list that I could locate. The message you saw is not included. It's possible what is below is not a complete list.

Tracking statuses

After you’ve entered your tracking number into Track,  the results page will show you the most current information available about the location and status of your delivery.

Here are some common tracking statuses and what they mean.

In transit

Out for delivery

Notice left

Delivery Attempt Made / Rescheduled for delivery next business day

Verifying recipient's address; Possible delay

Check delivery progress

Item held by customs

Delivered as a safe drop

Two others sent day after are presented to customs already instead.

I'm in agreement (I think) with @lotzofuniquegoodies.  I suspect it has something to do with the possiblity of tariffs being levied on these items.

I'm finding the tracked packet items are really delayed right now. It appears to be taking a week or more to clear customs. The one item I sent UPS seemed to clear in a normal timeframe.

This is good to know, Stallion is offering USA tracked packet service, but if they are just being handed off to Canada Post, we will get the same service standard (getting items across the border) as we would shipping it ourselves with Canada Post from eBay labels or a post office.

Folks who noticed this odd tracking status please keep us posted what happens. I'm on time away as of 6am EST Sunday but I am keeping tabs on what's happening for people who chose to keep shipping so I can make the best decision. I don't want to ship with Canada Post if there's going to be severe delays with items clearing the border (and tariffs being levied on everything).

Us eBay sellers really need the de minimis to keep running our businesses.

Oh this is a Canada scan? I would say it's Canada Post advising of a possible border delay (tariffs), and the ones that have the usual scan have cleared customs now. This might be because if you post it today, we don't know when it will clear customs (if it will be before March 4th), so they're updating tracking with this to let you know.

Since it's not the 4th yet, items are clearing the border fine if they get there in time. I'd say if it's showing forwarded to destination country it's not known yet if it will be assessed tariffs, it will depend on what day it arrives in the US and what is happening there at the time.

I believe that this is a generic message being added to every package destined for the US to cover Canada Post if the March 4th changes result in mass delays.

Everybody is getting these on their packages. It doesn't mean anything about your package. A customs agent didn't seize your package, or determine that you used the wrong HTS code. The message seems to pop up after the first processing scan before it even hits customs.

Maybe it is down to which sorting centre/customs they pass through? Because of where I am located, mine seem to process through the Montreal sorting centre and pass through New York. I have not noticed any long delays, except for a few packages during the week where we had the massive snow storm.

My packages are inducted into USPS consistently in about 2-4 days. A few items I sent out Monday afternoon Tracked Packet were already delivered Thursday and Friday.
