How is shipping to Europe these days?

When the new VAT program came in in Europe, last July i think it was,  I sent two packages to Europe shortly after.  Both got returned to me, despite the fact of me putting on the customs code  correctly.  At that point i blocked Europe from all of my listings.

Or so i thought.... turns out i  somehow missed one and someone has made a purchade from Denmark.  So, how is it shipping to Europe these days?  Most packages problem free or lots of headaches?

Any tips for shipping with success?

I have flagged a handful of countries in Europe which have posed problems (Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Iceland to name a few). But for most of the remainder there hasn't been a noticeable issue.

I noticed that you ar ein North York, you can open an account with Stallion Express which will give you amazing pricing on overseas postage.

I like you, also stopped shipping to Europe after the VAT changes and the pandemic delays. I made an exception for one long time buyer (with me almost since I started here) from Italy. Her packages always made it through, though there was one that took over 4 months at the start of the VAT (she was patient, she's that nice!) Because I know not every buyer is like my dream buyers I'm curious the answers here also since I've noticed a considerable drop in sales since back in the day (few years ago) when Europe was probably about 20% of my sales.

Besides the shipping (which I do think is much better now, at least I hope!) I found the fees were so much higher on my Italy sales since of course it is on the total amount including VAT taxes (21% I think for Italy) and shipping (more for overseas of course) but I still debate opening things up again also.

Re: How is shipping to Europe these days?

I have had no problem in the last year with Small Packet to Europe bought via Canada Post's SnapShip.

The SnapShip online form includes a place for entering the tax number.

I do not put the tax code as part of the address or anywhere else on the outside of the package.

Germany is on my restricted list because of their recyling registration law for sellers shipping to Germany.

I don't understand why Canada Post doesn't have a place on the electronic online customs form for entering tax codes.  Many countries require them now and they've had over a year to update the form.

They do. I ship using Canada Post Snap Ship and there is a place to enter the tax codes when preparing a shipping label. It's on the Customs section where you enter your item description and quantity.

I think they're referring to the online customs form that can be pre-filled out when shipping at the post office counter; there is still no option to enter any tax numbers on that form. While there's no reason that the majority of sellers should be purchasing their postage at the post office counter, it's still a necessity for the stamps-on-a-box folks.
