Late shipping defect

SoI just received my first late shipping defect from a buyer in cowtown, even though I shipped on time.  I live on Vancouver Island and can only assume that the buyer hadn't heard about our massive rainstorms, our flooding, Highway closures, evacuations, mudslides, power outages, snowstorms, ferry closures, the Christmas rush and that other thing....oh yeah the global pandemic.  I shipped on time.  I would like to have this defect removed, I would like to ream this buyer and I would like to block him, or at least two out of three!  Didn't I see somewhere that ebay had a protection plan for BC sellers? Just throwing this out to my trusted seller community, Thanks  Just an aside, this was over a $10 comic.

Late shipping defect

I just checked and the big banner heading "eBay is taking action to protect sellers for shipments to and from BC" is still up there with details from Tyler so you should have no problem having the defect removed.

Some people are so darn unreasonable that is is very tempting to ream them out as you say but as satisfying as that would be I would probably just do the 2 out of 3 and block him for sure (life's too short to deal with these types) and have the defect removed. You could still send him a polite message not quite reaming but pointing out the reasons (they were too clueless to be aware of themselves) the package was a little late.

Late shipping defect

Having received a number of late defects during protected times in the last couple years, there's a small caveat... to be protected the item had to be shipped tracked.

My defects that were automatically removed were for tracked items. The ones that have not been removed were not tracked. Unfortunately about 75% of my stuff is sent without tracking.

The problem from eBay's perspective is there's no proof we shipped when we said we did if it is not tracked.

I can't tell from your message but if it is not tracked I think you'll be stuck with the defect.

Thanks for the input, I also think 2 outta three aint bad, and I agree that diplomacy is in order.  Can I please do a gentle reaming that he won't even notice?  Ha ha. Later, have a profit filled day

You know Canadian tracking costs.  On a $10 item..........

Buyers are also prompted with "did it arrive on tine" and that is a reflection of the Ebay estimates that are as  delivery guarantees.  So I don't blame the buyer, many are not that ebay savvy and just click along.

Just as a double check, are your delivery methods set to provide the maximum delivery time possible. e.g. economy selected instead of standard?

If it was shipped tracked, you can contact eBay, they will remove it.

If it was shipped untracked, you cannot have it removed, even during protected times.

When a buyer leaves feedback, they are required to answer a very factually worded question that asks them if their item arrived before the expected delivery date. example: "Did your item arrive before January 10th, 2022?". Most people do not know the seller is penalized if they answer the question. It doesn't mean the buyer was unreasonable, or was upset about the item being late.

If you are shipping lettermail, you can edit your shipping service so that you offer a buyer 'Economy shipping'. This has a more accurate time frame for lettermail. You can still state in your listing that economy shipping is fulfilled by Canada Post Lettermail. Economy Shipping+3 day handling means a buyer will be told when they checkout that their package will arrive in 4-18 business days. I believe lettermail is 4-11 business days. This change will lower your chance of receiving INRs from buyers who think their item is lost because it did not arrive by the deadline they were told when they checked out. It will also lower the amount of late shipping defects you receive since most (not all) lettermail shipments will arrive within 18 business days.
