List on .com or .ca with my .com account or my .ca account?

This is turning out to be my weekend project - determining where to list and under which account. Sorry if it seems I have been posting too many questions but eBay's support person has managed to get both he and I confused.

1. I have a .com account and a .ca account.

2. I want to maximize visibility, recognizing that most of my interest will come from and most of my shipments will go to the US from Edmonton.

3. I want to minimize shipping costs and not lose money on shipping.

So, all you ebay gurus out there. If you were me, under which account would you list and on which site?

Under the .com account on the .com site?
Under the .ca account on the .com site?

Any other permutation or variation of the above?

You can list on either site from either id, ie you can list on both .CA and .COM from either account.

My thinking is to list on the site where the most buyers are:
-my material that is more likely to be purchased by Canadians is on .CA
-everything else is listed on .COM

I only shifted to that model a year and a bit ago (everything was on .COM before that) and it has gone well.

Re: List on .com or .ca with my .com account or my .ca account?

The most important difference to my mind is shipping.

If you items require parcel shipping (over 2cm thick or over 500 grams) it is best in my opinion to list of dotCA, and use Calculated Shipping.

Because parcel rates vary not only with dimensions and weight but also with destination.

If your things can go LetterMail, use dotCOM.

Be sure on either site that you give shipping fees to both countries.

This will ensure that your listings will show in Search on both sites. The Search shows the currency of the site and if the customer looks at the actual listing, both currencies appear.

Have you looked into using DYK Post  from Edmonton? They will bring your items to the border so that you can use USPS to ship.  That might be a factor on where you list as well.

When you say that you have a .com and a .ca account, do you mean that you have 2 ID's, one registered on .com and on .ca?

Yes, exactly, I have an ID on a .com account and I have an ID on a .ca account - the result of living in both countries with US paypal account and US bank accounts, as well as Canada with same.

1. I have a .com account and a .ca account.

Are you sure? What is the user name for the US account?

Well, here’s a good example of how confusing it can get. I thought I posted this question under my .ca ID: vmcthm
But it turns out I posted it under my .com ID: vickcharr

Re: List on .com or .ca with my .com account or my .ca account?

Why not list on both accounts for a period of time, say for a period of six months then let your experience be your guide.
My guess is you will be fine using your Canadian registered account since you can list on both ebay.ca and ebay.com.
I will comment that I have no problem selling to American buyers from ebay.ca. Those items I know are attractive to only US buyers I often list on ebay.com with flat rate shipping.

Something to consider, the exchange conversion rate.

The more stuff you can keep in $C the better:
-selling on the .CA id is presumably a .CA Store priced in $C which saves also on the store amount because it is in $C (I'm a sad US$ ANCHOR store owner paying $299 US$ a month, the store was opened before there was a .CA. It is too much work to convert the almost 4,000 items over to a .CA store in $C so I'm eating the 30% higher cost to run my store)
-everything that sells in $C saves you the 3-4% currency conversion cost PAYPAL zaps you with.

PS if you follow kwarthas advice, which would be an interesting experiment, I also suggest running stuff you expect americans to buy under the .COM id and stuff you expect canadians to buy under the .CA id.....
