Hello,
Just a quick question.
Does having an item listed as "Good till canceled" remove the web search ?
Like this item i have for sale : http://www.ebay.ca/itm/221159789743?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1586.l2649
When i search on the web : GOSS URBANITE FOLDER NIPPS #2C88229 only off-the-board relink to e-bay sites appear, not even one true e-bay hit. Those off-the-board do mostly rebound the searcher to e-bay, which i am not complaining, but when i research something on the web to buy, i will always look for true e-bay links before anything else.
Some of our items will appear on web searches, but most don't. Before all our items where web-searchable.
Anyone know why ?
Thank you

Ok,
Gave it a few days and still items not appearing of search engines....
Very very annoying.
Should i call e-bay and ask them why ?

My suggestion: move on and forget search engines.
If your products are valuable and your prices and terms competitive, potential buyers will find them on eBay where they are listed.
You may want to reconsider your policy on images. Each listing should have its own individual image, not your business logo.

I'm with Pierre. If you have tried "everything" but have not put in a dedicated image, well?
When I put in a searchable part number, my parts show up in Google.

Hello Pierre,
I think you are missing one of the points i made. E-bay is NOT the prime place for people looking for industrial parts, i understand it may be for everyday, entertainement or collectible products. Fort stamps, yes E-bay would be my first place to look.
After talking to a few buyers like me, as well from our own suppliers than our clients, most of them do not even think to look at e-bay for parts, they usually google it. We are in a very specific product niche and our products not showing up on websearches is a major downside.
Thank you for your comment about images Pierre, it is well noted and appreciated.

Hi! Just for fun I put the words "colossal mixture" in google search, just those two words (I use them a fair bit in a certain type of listing) and a number of my items show up first. However the lots showing generally are ones that have been listed for a while (as in months). It might just take quite a while for items to be "recognized" so to speak. Note that all my stuff is store items.....

So why you and not me ? that is my whole question

Actually for me it was the opposite, at first everything showed up, and now nothing ever does or does so randomly

"that is my whole question"
Previously answered: NOT all eBay listings are found in search engines.

saying NOT all eBay listings are found in search engines does not answer anything.
If a doctor would answer his patient's question in that same way :
Patient asks : Doc, how did I catch the flu?
Doc answers : It's NOT everyone that catches the flu.
Patient : But why do i have the flu ?
Doc : it's not important, move on. NEXT....
You would find the doctor's answer quite weak and in fact non-answers.
To me this issue is important, and might also be important to others.
Just saying

My continued investigation is consistent with Pierre's comment.
At this moment I have 46 items with the word "colossal mixture" in them.
When I google "colossal mixture" 6 of my items come up very first
3 are from "ebay,com"
2 are from "ebay.ca"
1 is from "ebay.uk"
(in this order)
This is very interesting because I only list on ebay.com I would be interested to know if anyone knows why (I checked other word phrases and my lots show up under other international ebay sites as well.....)
After this, no more lots show in the next 15 screens, I decided to stop when I saw it picking "colossal constipation"......
As a note, here is a wee eBay compliment, I use this same word string with other online selling sites and hmmm.... they never show up so I have to give eBay credit on that one.....at least some of them show up!

Yes very weird
as I search for one of my listing, an older one :
String of search : GOSS URBANITE OSCILLATOR GEAR PART #1C91883
I do not get a hit on e-bay directly, but some weird site that shows it :
http://picclick.com/GOSS-URBANITE-OSCILLATOR-GEAR-PART-221159789749.html
That site seems to be a side site for e-bay.

Have you tried putting in pictures as I do? You continue to ask "why" yet you have not exhausted all avenues.
If you'd look at my listing, not all listing have just our logo, some of them have a few pictures, and even those, with real pictures, do not show up, yes that avenue HAS been exhausted
and by the way, a logo is a picture, so irrelevant.
I have tried many avenues, all that people suggested.

I cannot answer your question why your listings do not show up in Google. It might take longer for the addition of the Product number to get indexed and ranked higher.
I would follow the suggestion that you use actual photos as much as possible. I do think you graphic business card image is in violation of new eBay photo policies effect July 1st, 2013. If your listings are GTC duration, the new photo policy does not apply until to change or revise your GTC listings. Enforcement of the new photo policy is lax now but will be stepped up in the coming months from what I understand.
However, I can offer a suggestion to you and other sellers that might help getting found in Google search indirectly.
eBay has a feature to create an About Me page. It is a short description of what your company is about. Part of the layout of the page has 100 of your listings added at the bottom of the About me page.
When I have done searches on my items in the past, sometimes the actual listings shows up on the Google search, sometimes the About Me page will show because it contains the listing titles which were indexed.
So using the About Me page may give you a slight chance of being found another way by Google search. Since the page creation is a one time effort and self updating with your listings, it requires no maintenance from a seller. Once a year or so update the description to keep it relevant if your product line changes.
Here is the eBay.ca help page on creating an About Me page.

eBay Says Much Paid Search on Google and Bing Is Ineffective
According to a Harvard Business Review blog post about the study on Monday, three eBay Research Labs economists analyzed eBay sales after suspending its ad campaigns, while maintaining a control set of regions where search ads continued unchanged. "Their findings suggest that many paid ads generate virtually no increase in sales, and even for ones that do, the sales benefits are far eclipsed by the cost of the ads themselves," according to the post.
...
eBay provided the following statement: "As one of the world's largest Internet advertisers, we continually look for ways to engage our customers, drive traffic to our site and maximize our marketing investment. eBay's research paper on paid search effectiveness – unveiled at the Economics of Digitization conference - addresses a fundamental question: "Why do large, branded companies like eBay spend such large amounts of money on paid search?" The test methodology used in the study analyzed the true returns from this significant investment. The conclusion: Incremental revenue from paid search was far smaller than expected because existing customers would have come to eBay regardless, whether directly or through other marketing channels."

No sure if it is related, but didn't you do well with paid hits a few years back Pierre ?
I seem to recall you did well but cannot recall the name of the program.
07-21-2013 12:08 PM
That was a great referral program offered by eBay where 75% of the FVF were refunded.
They ended it several years ago. It was worth $1,000 a year for me ($70/$90 a month).

I remember the program from a few years ago & recall you did well.
Would be nice to see it implemented again but i doubt that would happen.
Man we have seen a lot of changes over the years & most of the regulars have been here longer than i have.
