Managed Payments...I need help... eBay keeps saying I have to update account details on file.

I keep updating my bank info but I still get the header I have to update account details. I got my P.A.D. agreement on my messages so I thought I was good to go with eBay and CIBC.

I get failed messages from eBay regarding payments from my bank. And I see nothing on my bank statement from anything from eBay. When I try updating account....many times...it says updated and when I go to selling it says I have to update account.

What am I doing wrong??

I have gotten text messages from eBay and CIBC with their number codes and I thought all was well...NOT.

Frustrated from a very hot Winnipeg....Bob

Just went through this with a telephone rep.

If you try to put in the micro deposits too often (and as far as my bank was concerned no micro deposits were ever sent although eBay has them sent) you have to send  something like a bank statement.

I scanned one and sent it on, but it will still take a couple of days to verify.

I don't know what the problem would be but here are a couple of things to check.

Is the name on your bank account identical to the name on your ebay account?

Double check your birth date.....I've read that in some cases the month date year is in a different order than what we are used to.

You are using a chequing account?

Is your payout in US or Canadian dollars?

For your documentation were you able to actually get an upload link through your dashboard to upload? The tech wizards in Bengal have been unable to figure that out on my end so far.

From speaking with a team leader, this is the last thing you want to have happen as the account is now flagged by compliance. Any time data is entered passed their threshold it flags the account. Some of the reps were telling people to force the microdeposit failure if it didn't go through and again that gets you flagged by compliance.

Thanks for all your replies.

No micro deposits were put in my account. Now I am afraid to update my account again.

There is no link to download documents.

There is something wrong somewhere and I am confused since I got the  P.A.D.

@hlmacdon   Yes I got the link for the attachment.

I don't mind being flagged if they would just move the money to the account.

Re: Managed Payments...I need help... eBay keeps saying I have to update account details on file.

I would definitely not try updating again before ruling out all possibilities as another failure can trigger a compliance department review and you'll be stuck in limbo land. The only way to get an upload link (that I'm aware of) is to force the failure of the micro deposits (bad as it forces a compliance review) or to have a managed payments team leader request IT to enable for your account (not great either as they seem utterly inept at doing so).

So it is possible to have a PAD be done in the wrong name or have other incorrect information and get stuck with not being able to verification not signing off on ebay's end.  If the account name on the PAD or account and institution numbers don't match to the bank account nothing will go through. If it is a personal account you need to ensure that the primary contact for the account in your ebay profile matches letter to letter with the account holder name on your CIBC account.

If your ebay account is a business account, the business legal name (per CRA associated record with your business number) and CIBC account holder name need to match exactly. The PAD will force itself to be associated with your legal business name as the bank account holder name on ebay's side will default to this.  Assuming that you have this setup correctly and that your branch and transit numbers match then I would call into managed payments (use seller help links to find a topic related to managed payments then request a call back) and then ask to be transferred to a managed payments team leader.  Bypass the normal reps as they'll give you terrible advice. They can review with you what the problem may be and where you are in the verification process. Some of them are aware of broader issues with registration (like the ones effecting General Partnership business accounts in my case), so they are more likely to know if there is an issue that may be effecting verification of your registration information. They can tell you what the status of the verification checks are and point you to where the problem may be.

The problem is every time you update information it triggers a flag for suspicious activity which will result in a longer verification process. This is problematic as the reps are esentially telling people to get their accounts flagged. The team leader I spoke intimated that unless a team leader was monitoring it and giving it an internal push to get a "human" to manually review the documents once uploaded I could be in for a longer  wait. If you don't get a timely turn around I would recommend requesting one to get on your file and push it internally. I gathered from our conversation that quite a bit of this was being automated and that's causing a lot of issues with registration. Automated --> outsourced staff --> actual employee --> outsourced staff --> actual employee --> someone who can actually do something --> success?

Day 5 of waiting for an upload link with over a grand and counting owed. Fun. Hope you have better luck!

No idea about the arrow, what screen is this showing on?

I do however have a helpful banner promoting ebay seller capital lending at hilarious rates. Since they are effectively stealing everyone's money that might come in handy! Seems like a good marketing strategy, deny you your money then promote a **bleep**py lending rate and collect a finder's fee.

Hi, I went through five months of trying to get verified.  The first time I sent in my bank info I was asked in an email to send a voided cheque.  That's when my nightmare began. To make a long story short, I was told at least 30 different reasons for my verifications failing, I tried at least 25 of them, they did not work.  I was told it was my bank, my browser, Canada, I needed a new account, I needed a US account, I didn't need a US account, I only needed to send a statement, there was no way to send a statement, there was a way  the link would be sent, the link was never sent, I had the wrong swift code, routing number, you name it, it was always my fault - there was not end to it.  THE SOLUTION  - Canadians need to open a US bank account if they want to get verified.  I didn't want to do this, and I was told I didn't need to by managed payments, but they were wrong.   I just this week  received money from my sales from June on.  When US funds arrive for deposit at a Canadian bank the money is converted to Canadian funds and deposited.  Ebay is sending US micro deposits to a Canadian bank.   I was told by my bank in Toronto that when these mircro deposits arrive they will be converted to Canadian funds and that will never work with ebay's new verification system.  Ebay requires that the US micro deposit amounts will get entered into an email they will send out after a few days after you have sent in your bank info.  I tried everything I was told to try for five months and nothing worked.  Every ebay rep I spoke to, except for the ones who hung up on me, hung up on me while transfering me, kept me on hold for ages and then hung up on me, the ones who didn't transfer me to the wrong department and I had to start all over again, laughed while I was upset about not getting anywhere, the one rep who told me it was my browser and hung up on me when I said it wasn't my browser - they all wanted to help, the were all sorry, they have the same script.  You want to get verified and are in Canada, you will have to go through the inconvenience of getting a US account.  Ebay doesn't think ahead, they don't care that they are making things difficult for their Canadian clients.

Re: Managed Payments...I need help... eBay keeps saying I have to update account details on file.

Well, that may explain the micro deposit confusion.

Canadians need to open a US bank account if they want to get verified.

No.

We must have a checking account at a Canadian bank.

But.

That account can be in Canadian or in US dollars.

I had a lot of difficulty with two of four accounts. Some difficulty (error in birthdate) with another. And no problem with the fourth.

My problems were solved by using the Chat option, where the reps are eBay employees not the phone sub-contractors, and finally with a call from (!) an eBay employee. Also Chat gives you a transcript which you can read to see if what you think you were told is what you were actually told.

FWIW - I used passports and a bank statement for verification because the micro-deposit system did not work.

@reallynicestamps

Would an eBay seller be able to replicate the fixes that were done on your accounts without the intervention of eBay staff?

Re: Managed Payments...I need help... eBay keeps saying I have to update account details on file.

One was an error in date of birth.  No need for eBay's help.

One was an error with the bank transit number- eBay assigned the ID to a bank account which had been attached to the PP account and mixed up the transit number for one bank and for another. A bank teller spotted that one.

  • This was not the account I wanted to use for Managed Payments but I don't want to change it because I want to continue getting paid.
  • This was entirely eBay's error.

A third was an account that worked fine on two accounts, suddenly stopped on one of those and I needed eBay's help on that, but finally added a different account.

  • Again this was not an account I wanted to use and again I am nervous about changing it.
  • The other ID using the same account has had no problems.

Micro payments never worked, and another poster has reported that because eBay was sending these in USD to a Cdn$ account, currency exchange was messing it up.

And to reiterate, once the accounts were set up all the Held funds were transferred promptly.

I went through five months of incorrect information regarding my verificaiton problem.  I was told at least 27 different answers on how to fix the fact that my verfication was always denied - at least 25 times.  In the end the answer was simple.  If you are a Canadian seller you will need a US bank account to accept payments from buyers.  This is mainly because the micro deposits will be in US funds and when they reach you Canadian account they will be converted to Canadian funds and rejected.  This mean you will never have the US micro deposit amount to fill in when you get the email to list them.  So if you are having problems getting verified - get a US bank account.  It is an imposition to all Canadian sellers, but ebay doesn't care about that, plus this new system isn't nearly as fast or efficient as Paypal payments were.

Re: Managed Payments...I need help... eBay keeps saying I have to update account details on file.

Sorry @l8e123  we can ONLY use a Canadian bank account for Managed Payments.

And a Canadian bank account in USD still went through the currency exchange process that causes the error.  So it would not solve the micro-deposits problem.

If the seller is being paid mostly in USD a Canadian checking account held in USD can be useful, but not at the verification stage.

Passports, drivers licenses, and bank statements are apparently acceptable.

Re: Managed Payments...I need help... eBay keeps saying I have to update account details on file.

Hi, I'm not sure what you are talking about regarding using ONLY a Canadian bank account for Managed Payments.  My info was for Canadian sellers who are having problems getting verified.  Like I said, I spent five months trying to get this done.  It started the first time with me sending a screen shot of a voided cheque - twice actually, too fuzzy the first time, no comment the second time, I sent a statement - ebay didn't like it, I changed accounts to my business bank info - can't be done if you opened a personal ebay account and it didn't have my name on it, of course it didn't because my company doesn't bare my name, I did micro deposits with customer service people several differnt ways - all of them were wrong, it would seem not many of them know how this is done, I was told not to get a US account - also wrong, I was told it was my browser - it wasn't, I was told it was my bank's fault - it wasn't, I was told to enter the same information that didn't work more than twenty times - non worked, I had the IT department enter my info for me - that didn't work, I was refused help until I changed browsers and hung up on when I refused, I was told I had to have a router number - wrong, that my bank had the wrong swift code - also wrong, that I asked to be paid in US funds when I filled in the verification info - wrong, there is nowhere to add that info.  I could go on because this was a daily experiment for me, with several customer service reps, who didn't have a clue how to help, and picked a reason, and I'm talking about the Managed Payment department people.  The solution, and what worked for me to finally end this nightmare was opening a US bank account which allowed ebay to deposit the micro deposits and me to enter the puny amounts in their next email to me,  to prove that I wasn't the liar or the problem they told me I was, in many different ways, for five months.  I found the solution after speaking to the head office in Toronto for the CIBC, because she brought up the conversion of the micro deposits to Canadian funds.  I called ebay right away with this info.  By the way, I was hung up on so many times while I was on hold waiting to speak to the Managed Payments department, that I got used to it.  I started to keep a record of each call and on average found that I had to call and speak to five people to finally speak to someone, because I was hung up on at least twice.  So that is all I'm saying, if you are a Canadian seller having problems getting verified, the solution is to get a US bank account.  I am now getting all funds from sales deposited into my  account without a problem, it takes a long time to get each deposit but at least they are getting through now.

Re: Managed Payments...I need help... eBay keeps saying I have to update account details on file.

@l8e123, when we refer to a "US bank account," we're talking about a bank account with a US-based financial institution.  We've been told by eBay that Canadian sellers need a US dollar chequing/checking account with a Canadian-based financial institution if we want our payouts to be in US dollars.

I note that you're shipping out of California, so you may have connections to the US that most Canadian sellers with their eBay businesses based out of Canada would not.

Do you have a Canadian-based US dollar chequing account or a US-based bank account for eBay purposes?
