My hopes for eBay supplies...

I think/hope eBay is on the right track with this.

I live in a wee village and our local PO has all the stacks of parcels that have arrived, everything from boxes of stuff to car bumpers!!!

As an eBay seller, it is so sad to see so many "Amazon" labelled boxes in the stacks of parcels arriving.

This is basically free advertising for Amazon, everyone who comes to the counter sees that folks in their neighborhood are happily buying stuff from Amazon.

I think in the last year I've seen one parcel that had eBay logos on it, yet I know there is lots of stuff eBay sourced in those stacks too.

I'm hoping that the eBay supplies are competitive and that they help market the fact that the item is eBay sourced.....

Time will tell....

My "problems/thoughts" with the new shipping supplies are..

When people see eBay stamped all over boxes, instead of thinking "I should shop on eBay," they will think "I should steal that item in the box." Honestly, I try to not advertise if I am shipping an expensive item...you can't always trust everybody at the post office.

Re: My hopes for eBay supplies...

Hi XE! Well, I ship my packages covered with very nice and collectible stamps (to most countries) which also can make the package a target. So far that has not seemed to have an impact. on my loss rate.... it is a good point though, I probably will be selective about when/how I use the supplies, on the assumption the price is reasonable and they have any supplies that work for me.....

Yeah, that is what I am wondering about. Is the price going to be cheaper than to buy it from other sellers. I mean, I don't want to pay high prices just to have boxes and tape labeled with "eBay."

EBay is bringing back branded packaging?

I LOVED the poly envelopes, even though they only came in one size and had to be folded for my books and patterns.

Also they were free. Never a bad thing.

I never worry about either branded envelopes or about the pretty stamps. I believe they make my parcels more memorable, which would be a disadvantage for a snatch and grab thief and an advantage for the Murphy buyer whose family carefully puts aside a package where it cannot possibly be lost.

Femme, can you no longer order those branded envelopes now? I've still got about 50, I guess I will have to use them carefully then. I usually keep them for items that are too thick when placed in the bubble envelopes.

Re: My hopes for eBay supplies...

I haven't seen them for .... years. Not even sure how long ago. Maybe a decade?

Do you have a secret supplier? I was just ordering them from Canada Post. They were usually free but sometimes they charged either shipping or for the envelopes themselves.

I've forgotten how much they were, it's so long ago.

Re: My hopes for eBay supplies...

Poly envelopes are actually quite cheap to buy on Ebay.  1000 6x9" for $47.01 cdn and 1000 of 7.5x10.5" for $58.33 cdn.  The same quantity of bubble mailers is around $157.00 cdn.  It's actually quite a bit cheaper to buy rolls of bubble wrap or 1/16" foam in rolls, wrap the item and put it in a poly mailer than using a bubble mailer. Depending on what the item is I use both kinds but it's less expensive to use the poly mailers even with the bubble wrap or foam roll wrap.

Hi!! I have been buying these eBay poly bags from Canada Post for years --  They only cost .14 cents each and I just love how they also have a HUGE Ebay.CA    on the flip side - I believe it helps US customers realize that the package is from CANADA when they receive it, making them softer towards the shipping time.

You just have to sign up as a Venture One customer on the CP commercial website to be able to purchase them :

Re: My hopes for eBay supplies...

Thanks Ric.  I'm just putting an order together for Staples.

They have a great special on bubble mailers this month and I wanted to compare cost with eBay supplies before ordering.

I just checked out the eBay shipping supply site and my first thought was:  Good prices AND free shipping!  THEN, as I should have anticipated, I saw that they don't ship to Canada.

Thank you for the tip.

They really are too big for my usual needs, but I have just ordered some on general principles.
