New buyer using abbreviation in adress

Made a sale to a new buyer and i always verify their adresses as they often do mistakes

Buyer used 'TWP' as street name. Verifying with canada post i found out that the street name for his adress/postal code is Township road. Everything fits but it seems like he used an abbreviation for his street

Using lettermail. Would you just ship, use full street name that canada post showing, or cancel for problem with adress?

I feel like canceling would be a useless sale lost. And shipping with abbreviation could maybe makes the package an undeliverable adress. I contacted buyer about it but he do not answer

Re: New buyer using abbreviation in adress

Did they also include a PO Box as part of the address? I feel like there's a good chance a township road probably doesn't have mail delivery to the house anyway (although I could be wrong).  TWP Rd is probably the correct abbreviation, but I doubt it matters. The local mail carrier or PO should be able to figure either out. In this case I'd probably use Canada Post's suggestion, or I'd contact them for clarification since you can't mail it out until Monday anyway.

Assuming you only used google, you can try running the address through there.

The buyer's address didn't exist as it was provided, and you contacted them to verify it. They did not get back to you. I am fairly certain you would be fine to cancel due to problem with address, and eBay would cover you for any feedback removal.

If it is a cheap item, I would likely just end it as addressed. Worst case scenario, it's returned to sender, and you're out $1.94.

There are issues with guest buyers providing incorrect addresses due to auto-fill, so it is good to keep an eye on it, but I wouldn't overthink it too much. While it is good customer service to want to ensure people receive their items safely, the amount of time you might spend resolving this, which might not even be a problem, is likely worth more than the $2 you'd be out if it was returned to sender and you had to cancel after that happened.

Given that TWP is an abbreviation, I would send to the original address and assume the buyer had it correct.

Re: New buyer using abbreviation in adress

There is no reason to cancel.  If you are more comfortable using the non abbreviated version than use that. Either way, I'm sure it will be delivered.  I'm actually surprised that CP writes it out as on all the signs is shows as TWP.  If the address given matches the postal code given, there is nothing to worry about imo.

Re: New buyer using abbreviation in adress

Especially if it is a rural delivery* as long as the postal code is right it will get delivered no problems.

I live in a wee village of 300.

Something with my village name and NO postal code gets delivered here ok.

Something without my village name and the postal code gets delivered here ok.

I've had shipments sent with my last name instead of the village name, no village name at all, and a wide variety of other combinations all got here ok. (Remember I deal with a more aged crowd than many here likely).

Personally I (almost) never verify addresses and as you know from my annual MIA reports I have less than 1/2 of 1% packages lost.....

PS another way to verify the Canadian address is use it as the "from" person in the online customs form and the autopopulator will identify what Canada Post knows the address as.....

*Rural postal codes are "0" in the first side, ie N0M with a zero in the middle is a rural postal code.

The word township has two primary abbreviations. The two most common abbreviations for township are, Twp. Twsp. So should be no issue what so ever.

Re: New buyer using abbreviation in adress

I'd write the proper address in full on the envelope, but not in such a way as to obliterate the label. (Oh- lettermail, so you are writing the address anyway.)

" TWP Rd" isn't a wierd abbreviation. I believe English is not your first language, so you may not have run into that before.

Also worth remembering that the Postal Code gets the letter to the right carrier. And the carrier knows his route.

I'd still be writing out Township Rd.
