Here is the email from Ebay:

eBayProtect your accountGet a higher level of protection Hi dutchman48, It's been more than a year since you last updated your personal info. Keeping your personal info up to date can help better protect your account. Sound like a good idea? All you have to do is go to eBay and take a look at your personal info to confirm that it's still correct. If you updated your personal info recently, please ignore this reminder. Thanks for showing me the email...Apparently I must check &/or update my info often enough to not need to be reminded...

OR perhaps it's just the fact I am an occasional insignificant seller on eBay that I am not worth their time...they leave me alone and that's just fine with me!

Ebay may feel your account info requires updating, perhaps another phone number or email is what they're looking for?
Multiple means of contact are usually a good thing for online only type of accounts.

If I were receiving that email I would click on that "Protect your account " link (Only if received via ebay messaging) and see what it is they want from you.

In the past I've received notes like that one from Google, Microsoft and others too, responding to their request stopped the email reminders.

Don't recall ever seeing one like that from eBay.

I get this one on most of my (underused) id's.

I have ZERO problem with it! Although it's really unnecessary for me there are thousands of eBay users every day whose accounts are compromised, if messages like this can prevent even a tiny portion of these from happening or make it easier for users to recover their accounts then I'm all for it.

Did you read this part of my email above?

Yes I read it all the way through to the end... typical ebay one size fits all situations double speak.

All I'm suggesting is that if you'd really like to stop seeing the warning message, follow the link and see what's up. Chances are good that the warning messages would cease if their recommendations are followed.

eBay is constantly keeping track of what we do......

(1) When was the last time your password was changed?

(2) When you send a message on eBay Messages....  do you sign your name?

Do you sign your name when someone asks a question?  I used to sign my name, but now it is only my eBay  ID when these questions are answered.   It is amazing what someone can find out about you ... with just your name.   My buyers are the only people that know my name...

(3) Are you registered on Facebook?   Look at all of the problems with respect to information on Facebook.... recent situations reported by ... or about.... Facebook.

(4) Is your eBay ID linked to  your name on Facebook?  Facebook is not as internet secure as eBay

(5) Are you registered on other social websites?

(6) Are you fully protected with "https"?

eBay has "bots" following what happens on eBay Messages.

eBay has "cookies " on your computer.

eBay is watching us..

We must be constantly vigilant of identity security  on the internet...  Hackers  are getting better and better about what they can achieve...

I have two computers  focused on eBay.

--- The first computer is where I do all of my business....

--- The second is used only and only with emails.....Messages not received directly on eBay Messages.  There are many emails  that I ignore...

Maybe eBay sent a strange email to your email address and you answered...a test.....

I have learned how to track buyers with strange addresses... white pages for a name, address and other information .... Google maps....  Canada Post postal codes ...  looking at all of this information together.

Once your name is known and tied to where you live, People can find out a lot about who you are ... name, address, telephone number, email address(es)  and more.

Your computer is full of unknown, unexpected  watchers.....  They are there.  Remove them  and they are back within 24 hours....

How do you travel across the internet?  Be constantly vigilant.

I agree, it's a very good idea to stop and think what we're doing re: Facebook and social media sites in general.

A poor practice is to use our FB or Google IDs as a means of signing in to unrelated sites, it's convenient but by doing so we have just invited FB to track everything we do on that site as well, it expands their data gathering abilities.

Tracking and the gathering of data for heaven only knows what nefarious purpose is the main reason I resist adding browser extensions of any kind or install all sorts of "free" phone apps.

I'll admit to being a little paranoid regarding this sort of thing.

Protect your account garbage.

I found this thread with google after trying to find some way to contact ebay to tell them to "knock it off!". (Wasted over an hour. NO means of sending them an email or doing a chat. And I'm not sitting on hold for over an hour calling them.)

"It's been more than a year since...."

is tempered with

"it's been less than a month since you reminded me of..."

"and less than a month since the previous reminder",

"and less than a month...."

I went and searched my email for "Help Us Protect Your Account" subject messages.

Roughly every 28-30 days for the entire year. It's indeed annoying.

Specifically because when I click the link I can't "fix" the problem. It insists on me supplying and confirming a cell phone number. And that's just not happening.

I do have a cell phone. An old flip phone that lives in the car for emergency use. And it's on a pay as you go plan for that reason.

If they call, I'll never see it unless I happen to check the phone in the car at some point when driving.

If I put the home phone number it, it tries to send a text to it, which it can't receive.

(It's a landline on copper wires and I did try the first time I received one of these messages.)

I finally had to go into my ISP's blocking filters and added a block for any message with the Subject line: "Help Us Protect Your Account".

The fact that eBay offers no easy way to contact them about this (or almost any other legitimate issue) suggests they don't give a **bleep**.

Simple fix.

Mark the ones that are annoying, like the "New sign in activity on your Ebay account" I get every time I sign in, as SPAM.
