@reallynicestamps @Janet would know! eBay should ask about availability of a Kent API. Hehehe. Although apparently her powers powers don't work on earth. Oops! Spoiler alert!

I just got my first ever request for refund from American buyer. I have not ever had an issue until now. This buyer was late paying so I had to start a claim against him, He then paid a few days later but bought another item as well. I had a gut feeling something would go wrong with this transaction. I have given Ebay all my info including mastercard statement proving I payed at Canada post on same day I shipped item. I am worried I am getting screwed by this buyer, any advice, please?

I would suggest starting a new thread for your question, as this one is about a year old and is about COVID-related shipping delays, something quite different than what you're posting about. This thread is likely going to be shut down pretty soon due to it being inactive for over a year.

ZOMBIE THREAD FROM APRIL 2020.
The problem with zombie threads is that the information is often out of date and no longer correct.

Did you use a tracked shipping service?
If you did put the tracking number into the Claim.
NOW!
(This would include the barcode number on your PO receipt for Small Packet which is NOT actually tracked but sometimes USPS does use it, worth trying anyway.)
If you did not, your first communication in the Dispute could be to give the service and the date of shipping and ask for a few more days grace.
If they refuse, just refund.
Seriously, the Defects for not refunding voluntarily are worse than the money you lose if you plan to continue selling on eBay.
There are a lot of scams in your sportscard category, so I really really hope you used Tracked Packet. It is worth the price (~$15Cdn) in sketchy transactions.

What is a defect, what does it do to the seller. I waited and Ebay resolved in his favour of course.

You need to provide proof of delivery to win an item not received case, proof of shipment doesn't matter as it doesn't prove the buyer received it. If you don't have proof of delivery with online tracking it's best to refund before the deadline.
If you have more than 2 defects you can go below standard and end up paying more in fees. Or, not be able to sell at all.

As a note, I just discovered today that when they say make sure to refund by May 29th that they mean by 12:00 AM May 29th not midnight May 29th.... got an automagic defect last night at a tiny bit after midnight because I was going to refund (the agreeable) buyer today on the "last day". Going forward now I'm going to do this the day before. As a note I thought the buyer did it, they did not, it was the automatic process.

I'm always a bit confused when it say "by xx date" so its better to be safe and do it early.

Yes for a guy who's been around here as long as I have, I shouldn't be making these mistakes, the good news is that I have so few of them I either don't remember how it works or they've changed it since last time....of course by now I've already forgotten what I had for breakfast......
