tyler@ebay  confirmed that our SINs are optional on the Managed Payments information form last Wednesday.

How do I edit that and delete my SIN from managed payments? I didn't know it was optional and I added it, I really don't want it on my account.

OTOH  -- Paypal legally collects social security numbers from US clients and I am fairly sure they have a method of keeping those secure and there would be no reason not to use the same security system for the occasional SIN they are accidentally given.

And let's not forget that the Service Canada and CRA websites have had their share of "cyber incidents" in the past, too.

wow, lucky you.  they just sent me an email demanding I provide my canadian SIN.  they are also currently holding $1500 in payments going on a month now.  They also are demanding I pay out of pocket from a credit card to refund the buyers, whom their funds ebay is holding.  Pretty wild huh?  I have been in chat's with "tech's" for a total of four hours so far.

I put mine in as 9x'0', and they are now demanding I provide my actual SIN, or they won't release my funds.  I have provided my drivers licence front and back already

the Canadian government strongly advised you to not provide your SIN to anyone, except and employer, or a government agency.  I do not work for Ebay, nor are they a government agency.  They are now demanding my SIN though, and holding buyers funds hostage.

Putting in a fake/fraudulent SIN number wasn't a good idea!

No wonder they are being very stringent on your verification.

After working in HR for 40 years there is one thing I know for sure. It is not required to give out your SIN # to anyone. It is for Government use only.

Anyone can ask - you are not required to give it. Unless it's the Feds.

Im having the exact same problem - I was told to add zeros and now they are trying to make me add my SIN .  Did you resolve your issue?  can you share how?

Same thing , about the zeros for me too. I called to let them know that I had made a mistake, that I want to provide my Driver Licensce as my proof of ID instead of the SIN.  Was speaking with a entry level customer service rep at eBay today for about an hour, and I requested that this be elevated to the next tier of customer service. The rep told me that it was mandatory ( not mandatory during the sign up BTW), and that Ebay now acts like  a bank (lol). I was informed that the CS rep's manager(s) would call me within 72 hours, but that I would get the same answers that she just provided.

When I signed up I should have just entered my Drivers Licence info, yes. But now all of a sudden that is no longer a thing! This is very concering and shady, and I'm sure the Youtube community will have a field day with this information.

This is hurting so many eBay sellers and it has to be corrected. I will repost once I hear back from the next CS rep.

Clearly eBay doesn't care that it's hurting/upsetting people, or they would reverse this ridiculous policy. I don't know know of any other company in Canada that requires an SIN for proof of identity that isn't a bank or brokerage.
