TRIED AUCTIONS FOR 4 WEEKS COMPLETE FAILURE

i tried over four weeks 26 different auctions on small items worth between $10 to 50 dollars some more - all i started at .99 cents - and ran each week for 7 days - tried each week with more and more items till it reached about 26 items on auction in the final week -- complete failure -- not bid not one sale  all items where hardware styled items some hard to get thermocouples for heates and water tanks - some bidets very high quality- and some books -- and some wire products all needed items -- none sold or even had bids on them -- so this tuesday i put all items back in to regular buy it now items -- with sale  running on each of them -- will see what happens in next week or two on those -- lesson learned auctions don't work for my kind of products -- people don't just look  to save money - which you would think they would -   taking a no risk option to buy- an auction - they only but what they need to buy today - if they need it hard enough they buy if they don't they don't no matter what the price - so back to trying to tighting belt again with and with the post office chargeing more now  for shipping i have to adjust all my shipping prices  and redo listings so many each day  - till i get caught up again

Unless the item is either very high in demand or very very rare, auctions are no longer the go to for (most) sellers. Buyers want what they want when they want at a price that works for them. Shipping/location can also be factors. Is there best offer attached?

When I first signed up for eBay I bought regularly using auctions. Now can't recall the last time I bid on an auction. Same goes for selling. I haven't used auction format in several years. Last 2 that did sell sold at the opening bid. 1 cent and 99 cents. Buyers then complained about the shipping. Now it's all BIN with best offer +--->Wiggle room. Only you know how much you have of that? I have a very small work area so it's limited. 🙂

As a seller all we want to do is pay the bills to keep the lights on and hopefully get stuff out the door. That's just become more difficult as time goes on due to items being not as easy to find for various reasons. Many out of the control of sellers.

When I go to list a craft book or pattern, I check to see on average how much each is selling for. Some have reasonable prices, many sold for 99 cents on auction. I don't think people like auctions, they like to purchase, pay and have the item sent.

items worth between $10 to 50 dollars some more - all i started at .99 cents

The auctions do not start at $0.99, they are $0.99 + $24.44 shipping, the auctions start at $25.43

I've been trying to deal with you for months and nonetheless all the issues and confusion i've seen, the way you ignore shipping cost like it does not exist for buyers is something mindblowing to me. You can't sell something in the mindset that buyers blindly pay shipping cost like it does not exist, shipping cost is part of the total on the buyer's invoice.

Not trying to make that post personal but i'm very concerned on this point as it's been like 2 months that i want to purchase $200.00 of items from you at your listed price. But i can't because you want buyer to blindly pay an addition of shipping costs like it does not exist. You want to charge $110.00 shipping for a package that can be shipped 100g/2cm for under $15-20 tracked. Ask anyone if it makes sense.

That's very unfortunate to see you posting every few weeks about your slow sales. You have issues in your selling pratices  that are very easy to spot, a lot of people tell you everytime but you never really listen.

Auctions generally only work on items that have extremely high demand, that also have a very distinguished market price. Something like a Connor McDavid Young Guns rookie card might be a good candidate for an auction because there are hundreds of buyers at any one time, and if the price lags someone will bid it up in hopes of getting a steal.

The only reasonable use I have found for auctions it to liquidate inventory. I sell media. I do not have a retail location or a store front. If I have excess inventory where the market has shifted, or maybe I made a bad choice in stocking it, I'd rather look at it as a sunk cost and lot it up even if I won't "make my money back". It is also a benefit for tax purposes, because your inventory is an asset that cannot be written off until it is sold or disposed of. If you have a particularly strong year, liquidating stale inventory can make you additional money by proxy through lowering your income, and thus lowering your tax burden.

Auctions also come with more headaches. With either BIN, or Best Offer, it's very rare for someone not to pay for something within 5 days. With auctions, it is pretty common for someone to compulsively bid on a listing, and decide not to pay.

The reality is that especially in Canada, there aren't  many potential buyers for a lot of items. For something that sells for $20+ shipping at BIN but takes 3-6 months to sell, you probably will be lucky to get more than a few dollars in an auction. There needs to be high demand to drive auction prices.

This is why he struggling to sell. You want to purchase trading cards that can be combined and ship at like 100g/2cm, you contact him, and he refuse categorically to combine shipping. $22 of overcharge per additional listing. People in this hobby buy in bundle to combine and save on shipping, that's just standard. Whos dumb enough to overpay $60 of shipping. Turns win/win situations into lose/lose ones. That's how you throw $200 sales. I'm probably not alone to face brainless situations like this and who must pass.
