Undisclosed Listing fees

So I purchased an item that was not correctly advertised as working with the model it was required for, and shipping it back was going to cost as much as the part so I decided to list it - with a proper description.

All the way through the listing process EBay proclaimed it was a Free listing blah blah blah... a month after the listing ends I get an invoice for additional fees !!!

Don't tell it’s Free to list if it’s Not - EBay would have know it was going to cost me something and I should have been informed !

Or if this was calculated afterward then how was i to know I would get dinged for a fee, that’s again nearly the price of the item - I’m getting deaper in the hole for a mis-advertised purchase !

Time to get BBB and Consumer and Coorporare affairs involved,  because you can’t mail EBay a question, you get to wait on hold or Stand around waiting for them to call...

Re: Undisclosed Listing fees

It is the seller's responsibility to know all the fees that may be added to a listing, if additional features &/or upgrades are used. A basic listing is free but if you add features such as reserve price, there is a fee for that:

https://www.ebay.ca/pages/help/sell/fees.html#optional

It is very important to read all the information that is made available to anyone wishing to sell on eBay, and to read this information before committing to listing an item.

Re: Undisclosed Listing fees

So your saying EBay has no responsibility to present the seller with the cost of the listing at the time its placed ?

Like buying a car, where well tell you what it’s going to cost, the month after you’ve bought it ?

Re: Undisclosed Listing fees

all listing fees, are disclosed, right before you click on  "Submit listing", the only fees that should show up after the fact are those that apply when you sell the item, ..  if you got something different, then i recommend you call customer service,  and explain the same to them, see what they can do for you..

And if you received an incorrect part in the first place, it is the seller's responsibility to pay for return shipping, not the buyer.

Re: Undisclosed Listing fees

It is not advisable  to use Reserve Price on low value items...it's best to use a Reserve Price on high value items. The best advice that can be given to new sellers who choose  to use auction format is to list items at a price that is acceptable to you should there be only one bid and do not fall for that 99c start price...that's best left to the experienced sellers to gamble with if that's their game. The alternative is to list an item in fixed price format with the price you want and if you start out at the high end you can always lower the price a little should item not sell first time round.

Re: Undisclosed Listing fees

You get 50 Free Listings every month.

But 'free' only applies to the upload.

If you use Reserve, you are charged an additional fee, whether the item sells on not.

If you use a Designer Template, you are charged an additional fee, whether the item sells on not.

If you use Scheduled Start Time, you are charged an additional fee, whether the item sells on not.

If you use International Site Visibility, you are charged an additional fee, whether the item sells on not. (And your item shows on that site whether you choose it or not).

There are probably a few more.

These charges are listed at the end of the listing page with a link that goes into more detail.

https://www.ebay.ca/pages/help/sell/insertion-fee.html

And if your item sells you are charged 10% of the selling price + 10% of the shipping price and pay Paypal 30 cents + 2.9% of your customer's payment.

Time to get BBB ..... involved,

The Better Business Bureau is a franchise operation that was set up by businesses to protect businesses (sometimes from other businesses). It does have a mediation process but no legal authority.

Re: Undisclosed Listing fees

The only way fees were not disclosed to you is if your method of listing uncovered an eBay software bug.

If you can reproduce the problem, report the problem to eBay and asking for a listing refund.

...

How to: go to your ended listing and use sell-similar to create a test listing, set up an auction with reserve (but do not activate) -- if the cost still shows as $0.00 then contact ebay with details about the problem (software & hardware you are using to make a listing, screenshots if needed).

...

What I see if I set up an auction with reserve:

auction with no reserveauction with no reserve

With reserve added, the fee is shownWith reserve added, the fee is shown

Fees are shown before you activate the listing.Fees are shown before you activate the listing.

...

General comment:

Auctions are only useful for popular, in demand items, where many people are looking to buy.

Buy-It-Now (BIN) is usually the best choice. 30 day listing, with the price you want. Or if you are willing to haggle, you can also allow Best Offer on the listing.

You have free basic listings available every month. Just avoid all the extra add on choices.

For future reference, if an item is not as described you can open a return through the ebay Money Back Guarantee. The seller will have to pay for return shipping.

Re: Undisclosed Listing fees

I don’t recall seeing this fee, as I would not have listed the part.

Re: Undisclosed Listing fees

if you have bought the part less than 30 days ago, you can request a return, by opening a case for item not as described,  then the seller will either issue you a shipping label, or refund your purchase price, but i believe it has to happen within 30 days of buying it.. if it past 30 days, you can go through paypal..

Re: Undisclosed Listing fees

However, Paypal offsets their longer deadline (180 days from purchase) by insisting that the buyer pay for the return.

You may also be able to do a chargeback on the credit card you back your PP account with, but policies vary from card to card.

@esclyons

The 30 days for Dispute begins on delivery (or the last estimated date for delivery for Item Not Received disputes).
