Re: Upcoming changes to U.S. and international shipping

they do not enter in the customs information which is what the new requirement is.

The green form is too tiny to be useful.

The white form (Small Packet) is misleading, since it does not clearly give a way to declare the shipment was paid for.

Nor does it have a space for the HScode.
What is needed besides HS code for product, perhaps the product name, and the price/value?

I'm always well stocked with Customs Declaration Forms... 🙂

I'm trying to understand what is changing come Jan.1/21.

The Postal Manager (the women I always deal with) also enters the customs information ie; package contents, declared valve and if it's a sale or other...

I send all my packages Track-Packet-USA or Tracked Packet-International.

So I'm not sure if there just going to delete the Customs Forms or what?

Hmm this is a good point.

I hadn't thought about the tracked etc stuff.

Because I always come with my online stuff done for tracked packets etc, she only has to manually do the small packet stuff, and she simply checks the box that the online stuff was not done. Today it does not make her put any customs stuff in for the small packets.

However as you've noted for stuff like tracked packet if it wasn't done online, they must have to put the customs stuff in too (if I recall at one point in time CP was going to charge us $2 or something if we made the PMs manually enter it but that was never implemented, they've continued to do it for free).

So this increases the hope level, my current guess is that starting January 2021 the customs information will have to be manually entered as well for the small packet stuff, same as is the case for the tracked etc.

It still gives me the task of convincing the troops here to manually do it for me!

PS THX For persisting, usually I eventually catch on!

This is how I understand it although I could be wrong.

If you do not use online labels, you will have to either print out the customs info online before you go to the post office or they will have to enter it while you are there which I think would end up in the lines being longer at the p.o.  I supposed that the post office could use those forms to get the customs information so that they could enter it when you took the parcel in. But I don't think those forms will be left on the packages..info will be in the customs bar code.

All you need is the QR code the Canada Post online customs form creates -- that can be printed out or captured on your phone or mobile device.  Then the QR code is scanned at the post office to grab the prefilled info.

The shipping label created at the counter will have all the info (including customs data) tied to the label bar code, so no more separate custom forms in 2021.

Re: Upcoming changes to U.S. and international shipping

Hmm I wonder which way they will go?

Today for a tracked packet I take my QR code up there, they scan it in and then their printer prints off an 8.5x11 page that folds in half that I have to sign and insert into the jumbo plastic pouch.

There is only a label attached today (2 actually) for expedited and expresspost to Canada.

I'm thinking small packets will work like tracked packets in January, because of the need for the signature.

Based on my discussions with my PM already, it looks like I'm going to have to come with the QR codes, there will already be too many other folks showing up without them (a drawback of a wee village PO with only one person there!). I do worry about how we'll get everything out before the truck arrives because the extra work for her will be significantly more if I'm showing up with 3 times as many tracked style packages along with others with several times the number of ex-small packets too!
