What Can I do about a parcel mailed to Australia in December and was held up because of the Post off... and of course the usual has happened and eBay right away refunded her the payment! without any discussion with me. I have been in contact with the buyer since January, explained the situation about the postal strike etc --- spent a couple of hours on the phone on monday calling Canada post / Paypal / eBay and they said not to worry they would contact the buyer and explain to her about the post office strike delays now she has made a claim Help please

I'm not aware of any recent postal disruption in Australia, do you have a link?
I sent a few packages there in the past few months, no delays..........

You sold an item to an Australian Buyer in December.
You believe it was held up by the aftermath of the postal disruption.
Did you use Surface shipping. Did you use tracking?
The Buyer opened an Item Not Received Claim.
You could not prove delivery (not shipping, delivery) and lost the Claim.
The Buyer has been refunded.
Did you voluntarily refund, or did eBay refund and then charge you?
If the latter, you also got a Defect.
Has the shipment been delivered yet?
If so, you can bill the Buyer through Paypal noting politely that she now has her purchase and apologizing for the delay.
Frankly, most of the postal delays were over by January. If you had shipped by Air Mail, the item should have arrived by the beginning of February.
If you shipped by Surface..... just don't ever do that again. It's too expensive.

ditto, if there was no tracking, then you have no recourse..

December would probably be referring to Canada Post and the Vancouver backlog from strikes...
Right......it had so little impact on domestic and outgoing International I'd completely forgotten.

Yea eBay staff is even in the forum saying they will help with even non tracked lettermail shipments during the strike. They didn't do that and I lost lots of money because of it. I learnt a valuable lesson this holiday.
Don't listen to eBay staff.

In our 14 years of experience with ebay they will say whatever lie they can to get you off the phone as quickly as they can. They did not and are not going to contact the buyer for you.

Sorry to say I did not get any replies from the eBay seller centre board! I do not understand why! !!!
I was very disappointed not to have heard from anyone - I have just got this email today asking "Did you get the answer you needed"
Thank you all for your replies which I have been reading through all I can say is Thank you / Thank You, Thank You All. The buyer made a claim and as I had just the day before had a bad fall and suffered multiple bruising and a cut on my arm I was in a lot of pain. I Paid the buyers claim and lost my payment . Lesson Learned! it was the buyer who wanted the parcel sent by sea, insurance, no tracking.
I will now try and find out why I did not get your replies.
Thanks again,
AKA Pat Murray

Ouch. Part of the lesson is that when the buyer wants a cheaper, slower or untracked service, there is a very high chance that he plans to scam you.
If he requests to upgrade to a faster or tracked service , the seller is allowed to charge for that.
The seller can upgrade service at her own expense without the buyer's permission.

The thread is on the Seller Board and you did get several replies.
But if we don't put @tu-ee on the post, you will not get a message saying it's there.
I'm sorry to hear about your fall. I hope it all heals up well.

Australia post can take their time with customs. It is not reasonable for a buyer to get a defect and loss of income if the item was posted on time with proof of post. Tracking or not.
And yeah, always mandate tracking, and full insurance (unless your cookie jar), and signature confirmation if offered. If they have a stellar record or you are familiar with them then maybe its worth the risk. Otherwise tracking is mandatory for International. Scammers aside customs alone mandates this.
Sometimes they aren't scammers. A buyer once sent me money when the package arrived after eBay refunded them the purchase.
