What kind of results are you seeing with your tracked shipments since the Strikes began

Just wondering if I am having bad luck

I've only shipped 2 tracked parcels since Monday

The first one was shipped on Monday Oct. 22 the first day of the rotating strikes, and the places that were on strike should not have affected my shipment. It should have been scanned at Missisauga that evening and then gone out for delivery the next day. So far I have not seen the Missisauga scan, and the delivery date has been changed on the tracking page to Oct. 31 for a parcel that should have been at its destination today at the latest. Normally it would have been there yesterday.

The other parcel was not eBay related, but a Free Shipping Tuesday item that I sent to a friend. It was shipped Oct. 23 and was just going a few miles and tracking said it was delivered this morning on schedule BUT my friend did not receive the parcel or any notice of attempted delivery. She has looked and asked around, but nothing is there.

So, from my experience 100% failure on a very small sampling, I have to wonder if there is more going on at Canada Post than just Rotating Strikes. Up until now I have never had an issue, and now all of a sudden 2 in a row. I hate to think where my lettermail shipments have ended up.

How is everyone else doing?

Mississauga went on strike at midnight Monday (part of the GTA) for Tuesday/Wednesday...

They were also slow scanning last week, early morning scan instead of usual evening.

Too early for any useful data.

I sent a tracked package Xpresspost from Vancouver to Calgary. So far so good. I've noticed on the updates on Canada Post's site it has a message saying "Delivery may be delayed due to labour disruption". So that is good because the buyer sees that when he checks the tracking number. Looks like it may take a day or two longer to deliver than normal.

Your mail will go nowhere if you shipped it on Monday until they rotate out of Toronto . Toronto being on strike is basically a full country strike .

If you shipped anything on Friday it probably had time to get in and out of Toronto ..

I had one parcel on Monday morning going out of Brampton and heading to Pelee Island.  It is only showing the scan at the post office on the 22nd with expected delivery date of November 1.  I would have thought that this parcel would have gone from Brampton to Mississauga before 12:01am Tuesday.  I wonder if job action started before 12:01am Tuesday otherwise I should have at least got the Mississauga scan.  It might not have left Mississauga but it should have at least had the arrival scan if they were indeed working up until midnight.

Two packages mailed out Monday, Oct.22/18 in Winnipeg show two scans, the latest being processed in the evening (processing center). I don't know if their still in Winnipeg or have been shipped to Ontario.

One package mailed out Tuesday, Oct.23/18 in Winnipeg also shows two scans, the latest being processed in the evening (processing center). I'm pretty sure that package hasn't left Winnipeg as of yet.

i mailed 2 packages on Monday, in London Ontario. They are both still sitting at my postal outlet according to the scans.. As Toronto is the first stop, they don't send it where they won't accept it.

Yup, that appears to be the case

I thought I would make it through Toronto before the Strike action there began but I guess not. If evening scans were not being done, then there wasn't a chance for it to get through as per normal.

There really doesn't appear to make much sense to try and ship anything right now if it is just going to pile up. Seem more likely to get damaged or lost. Not really sure what to do, but there are not many sales anyway, so I'll worry about that if and when I sell something. 🙂

I still don't know what might have happened to the other parcel that said it was delivered but did not show up. I have to wait until tomorrow to start an investigation into that one. sigh

Thanks for all the updates everyone. Seems anything in Ontario is kind of stuck right now.

I put an Xpresspost small box in the mailbox Tuesday morning, so the truck would have grabbed it later that day.

It was Bowmanville Ontario to Cornwall Ontario.

In past experiences it was scanned for the first time always later that day or maybe next day latest, but now its Thursday and it should have been scanned Wednesday or Tuesday.

So I assume it's stuck somewhere, and it hasn't been scanned once, which I wish a person would do at one of the earliest stages when it went through the first or second peoples hands.

My Ontario-bound stuff is currently in Kitchener and looking to be on-time. The item headed to Quebec arrived and was being delivered overnight. Unsure about the lettermail.

Considering Oct 21 was last Sunday, and this item wasn't picked up in Ladner, B.C. until 4 PM Monday, Oct 22, I'd say delivery at 10:38 AM in Fonthill, Ontario on Oct 24 is very good:

My inbound shipment that was supposed to be shipped from Montreal was actually shipped from Hong Kong. From Hong Kong it went to Richmond to be cleared, then to a depot in Vancouver and is now showing in Edmonton being forwarded to Calgary....Possibly!!! Unless of course it's on a bus somewhere with the late John Candy accompanied by Steve Martin.

PS. Shipment started out as Regular on the 16th...Now has been magically transformed to Expedited.

My "free" Xpresspost shipment this week was mailed Tuesday night (after the pickup deadline) in Cambridge, Ontario.

Was routed through a sorting facility just outside the Toronto deadzone, and was delivered in BC today.  Effectively 1 business day.

I expect delays once the Toronto mail pile clogs up the system again.

The package arrived today with the original tracking number attached as per completed sales tracking. Shipping location on the label is a freight forwarder in Mississauga, ON.  So for those playing along at home items were shipped from Mississauga to Richmond for clearing then forwarded to Vancouver. From Vancouver was overnighted to Edmonton. From Edm. was 2 days to Calgary due to the mail disruption and delivered to community mailbox with nothing owed. Not from Mtl as advised by the seller. Dimensions on package were marked as 0.1 cm x 0.1 cm x 0.1 cm Weight .48 kg. Actual dimensions were 27cm x 27 cm x 15 cm and 1.720 kg. This could be how some Offshore shippers can ship for free or at reduced amounts and are able to get their items ranked higher/closer in eBay. Postal systems don't have time to audit all packages due to the volume they are handling. Also with thousands of sales and 3 or 4 hundred negative/neutral feedbacks they still qualify as a Top Rated Seller with limited penalties for any infractions. (PS. Total time for shipment delivery 10 actual days).

I've been contributing to this thread on a different thread. I'll only update here going forward:

First update:

I'm west of Toronto, my stuff goes through Mississauga.

Here are 3 I'm watching, I've not had much tracked since the 19th, store is in coast mode.

To Canada: mailed Oct 19th to NF - no updates since Oct 21 saying it is in transit, Dieppe NB

To USA tracked: mailed Oct 24th. No updates since acceptance scan (processing in Mississauga is usually next day).

To International tracked: mailed Oct 24th. No updates since acceptance scan (processing in Mississauga is usually next day).

I've noticed that tracking for USA packages in the USA mailed earlier than the 19th are behind, ie there are updates on the USPS site that are not on CP yet. This has happened in the past so may not indicate anything, or it may indicate they're slower than normal updating CP stuff.

Latest update:

Current package status:

To Canada: mailed Oct 19th to NF - no updates since Oct 21 saying it is in transit, Dieppe NB. Showed up in NF today and delivered today.

To USA tracked: mailed Oct 24th. No updates since acceptance scan (processing in Mississauga is usually next day).

To International tracked: mailed Oct 24th. No updates since acceptance scan (processing in Mississauga is usually next day).

To USA expedited mailed Oct 26th. Acceptance scan only.

I've been noting inconsistent scanning for several months. Actual scans at post office(by agent) then nothing displays when you check online details. Then assorted missed scans between the depot and final delivery. With so many places for miss-sorts to happen along the way and limited options with signature, makes it very difficult for a Canadian to ship reasonably, securely. My system. Drop off at the post office and hold breath no_mouth until I see either delivery or feedback. Then breath again. grinningrainbow

I think that the employees of Canada Post slow down the service so they get overtime to get more $$$ like 2 years ago which one of my friends who worked there told me.

I see many of packages are standing still for a few days.

My inbound packages are delayed by 4+ days and I still don't have them yet.

Part of the reason may be that first the plant goes on strike but perhaps the next day a neighbor plant or area goes on strike so your item can't go anywhere cause they are on strike in the destination.

Although it's a rotating strike it for sure is having an affect. I have items that were not in any area where there was a strike and I was notified of a delay due to labor action.
