I rarely ship anything tracked in Canada so this will probably be nothing new for most of you.... This morning I had to print a shipping label for a largish item within province.... Enter dimensions and weight - $22.05 (which I thought was kind of low... ) hit continue, now the price is $36.26 because there's a $12 oversize surchage and $2.21 fuel surcharge (information obviously not available to them on the previous page). Hit go to checkout and the new-new total is $40.97 because of course taxes (information obviously not available to them on the previous 2 screens). Thankfully I wasn't quoting someone shipping costs based on the first screen.

Where were you seeing this... on Snapship? You would think that they could show you all of that the first time. I find both PayPal and Shippo a little more user friendly in that respect.

If doing a quote use the Canada Post calculator:
https://www.canadapost.ca/cpotools/apps/far/business/findARate?execution=e1s1
Sign in to your Canada Post account to see your discounted SfSB cost on the calculator (or click on Show minimum online savings to display the SfSB level one discount).
SnapShip is far too annoying if you just want to quote a price.

The Canada Post website is your best bet, if only because it shows the counter price for your shipment, without any discounts you might be getting from Paypal, Shippo or SnapShip/SfSB.
Most sellers use the minimal discounts as an insurance premium against the occasional misquote or claim.

SnapShip is Canada Post's website.

Canada post isn't supposed to charge taxes on postage over $10.
Where did you get that idea?
The PO doesn't charge for international postage labels, no matter how low, but they do charge GST for postage stamps, even booklets with US or International rates. Even if you use them in front of the clerk.
And of course, you can't buy shipping labels for LetterPost online.
GST is not charged on shipping labels for packages being sent outside Canada, but is on domestic shipping, no matter how high or low.

The amount is $5.
No tax over that on mail sent outside the country.
GST always charged for unapplied stamps and parcel shipments inside Canada. Provincial taxes on parcels vary by province.
Buying stamps first, then applying them to a parcel leaving the country means you will be paying sales tax.
No sales tax on money orders.
