I bought a Canada Post label through eBay, with the signature option selected, but the label did not indicate signature required when I printed it, so I voided the label. Almost 2 months later and I still cannot get a refund for it – a $78 label.
Every time I called eBay, they said I’d get a refund in 2 days. Never happened. Finally, they told me the refund request was rejected by Canada Post, even though the label was never used. They said I need to take it up with Canada Post.
I explained to eBay that Canada Post would ask me for the account number, which I don’t have – it was eBay’s account. eBay charged my credit card for this, so it’s eBay’s obligation to refund me. If they can’t get a refund from Canada Post, it’s their problem. They said it’s all they can do, they’ll ask their supervisor again, but said it’s unlikely I’ll get the refund.
The hypocrisy of eBay telling me this. If I ship an order to a buyer and it gets lost in the mail or damaged, eBay will force me to refund the buyer regardless of whether I can get a refund from the carrier. Buyer refuses to participate in the carrier investigation so I can’t get a refund? Too bad, I must refund the buyer. Now eBay refuses to refund me for services not provided, because they can’t a refund from the carrier.
My next step is to do a chargeback against eBay with my credit card company. I suppose there’s a chance I could get banned for that, but I have it in writing from eBay that I should’ve been refunded.

it was eBay’s account. eBay charged my credit card for this, so it’s eBay’s obligation to refund me.
Umm.
There is a 1-800 number on the back of your card and on your monthly invoice.
Phone it and ask for a chargeback since the purchased product was returned and never used.
FWIW- I rarely buy labels (being a stamps on the envelope kind of person) but I have had unused labels refunded from time to time. It usually took a month or more, perhaps because Canada Post wants to be sure the label was in fact unused?

According to the eBay Labels Help Page you have up to 14 days to void a label and it can take up to 21 days for Canada Post to approve or reject the refund. If it's approved, you'll receive an email that you have been refunded. Shippo's policy is 10 business days for a credit in Canada. If it gets beyond 10 business days, just have to rattle their chains to get the funds to magically appear. Refunds for US sellers. CP is same 10 business days. Used to be by cheque (You have to make sure you have a valid name personal name attached to the account.) Alternative now is they credit your CC. PayPal postage, not sure.

Is Ebay's Canada Post discount more than you get with a Canada Post small biz card? Just wondering to see if it is a better alternative to buy expensive shipping labels directly from Canada Post - of course this is in hindsight given the situation.

eBay gives you the level 1 small business discount.

Makes it look like a national group discount with no visible account number attached without the possibility to build up additional savings. As OP states difficult to open claims with CP without that account number. One of the first questions CP asks you when you call them is your account number.
Seller A: 1000.00 transactions
Seller B: 1000.00 transactions
Seller C: 500.00 transactions
=
Level 2 discount
Start date is whenever eBay negotiated

Ahh, I see. I voided the label immediately. eBay told me to wait the 21 days for it to be refunded automatically. When that didn't happen, they manually requested a refund from Canada Post, but it was already too late. Or they're just having endless technical problems, but that's on them.
So it's chargeback time. I thought I could reason with them with having to resort to that, but no.
Thanks for the help.

Lotz-- Do you mean 1000 transactions or $1000 purchased as postage?

$1000.00 in transactions. It was too late to edit once I saw the omission.

Re: Customer Number requirement as it would apply to making a claim with CP.
Because your CP account is not directly attached to eBay Labels this could create an issue. Same goes for eBay omitting phone numbers to the label. Another requrement when you initiate a ticket to trace a parcel with CP. Often by the time something arrives OR doesn't that information is no longer available in Order Details. Having those pieces of information helps streamline the process. With eBay Labels the process has been made much longer.

Decided to try eBay's label shipping today to see the prices vs. CP today for a tracked packet to USA.
eBay price: $16.98 and a claim they saved me $3.58 in postage
Canada Post Snap Ship: $13.94 with small business discount.
Only advantage to eBay labels was everything was pre-filled. For $3.04 per item, I'll fill them out myself!

What small business level are you at? If you are more than a level one Snapship and Shippo will be less expensive. But $13.94 is the level 1 rate for TP 250 gr or less so it does sound as if you are that level....do you remember the exact weight that you entered on the eBay label page?
05-11-2021 09:22 AM
Not sure for small business level but all my items are between 200 and 250 grams so Tracked Packet USA $13.94 is the usual rate: discount was $4.11 and fuel surcharge 97 cents. On eBay I had entered 7 oz since it gives me a U.S. weight page when selling on .com which comes to 200 grams. I tried the Shippo site and found it horrible.

I voided my ebay shipping label same day and it has now been 3 months and they still did not refund me. I keep calling ebay and ebay keeps saying I will get refund in 1 week but nothing.
SAD and VERY UNHAPPY!
