i just sold an item on ebay and the buyer sent payment. the problem is that ebay dont release the payment and they put it on hold so i dont get the payment from the buyer. now the buyer agreed to cancel the order with me in a message when i told him about this because ebay want me to ship the item and pay the shipping fees while i did not even get paid and the buyer payment is on hold. i try to refund the buyer payment but ebay wont let me do it. they ask me to add a payment option , a bank account or credit card , to refund the buyer , while ebay holds the buyer payment. this is completely unacceptable. i been dealing 18 years on ebay and i never been asked for this before. ebay seems to put the buyer and seller as hostages by holding the payment and force the seller to pay the shipping and send the item without even having the payment which makes no sense , and also make the buyer problems by not letting us refund them with the payment. looks like ebay want to keep the seller fees from the transaction and want us to pay those fees even when we want to cancel the transaction. this is very bad. i am thinking of quit ebay and close account.

Where to start......
eBay places holds on funds for new or infrequent sellers (you have one selling feedback in the past year).
Your funds are on hold, you need an alternate method to pay for the refund, once the order is cancelled the hold will be removed and you will have access to the funds.
eBay is the one holding money as "hostage" (because they don't want to pay out for a refund and THEN try and collect from you. YOU are the one holding the buyers money "hostage".
When you do an order cancellation or full refund eBay will ALWAYS refund the fee portion you unless the buyer makes a formal claim and has to get eBay to step in to resolve.

As an occasional seller , have you signed up for Managed Payments?
You need a chequing account with a Canadian bank for this.
Unless you register that account and provide some further identification (passport or driving license, for example)* eBay has nowhere to send the money.
Paypal has been an excellent payment processor for many years, and I was sorry that eBay and Paypal have parted ways.
But one possible Good Thing that may come out of this is tightened identification requirements which might with luck make it harder for scammers to hijack accounts that have rarely been used.
*Don't try to use the 'micro-deposits' they just don't work, probably because of currency exchange.

If you print the label through eBay they should take the funds from your held payment.
