Off-topic I know but it's early on a Saturday and I've nothing to do at the moment. I can get shipments from Europe to Canada faster than I can get a parcel from any province to here in Ontario. It always makes me laugh that international shipping is more efficient than domestic. Strange world.

Air versus truck.

Air always! And the shipping from Europe is so cheap. Canada must have a special deal with overseas mail delivery services.

The shipping cost is minimal from Europe for small items and it's a mix of standard mail and rerouted Express mail which given how little I pay seems a shocking bargain that it's actually in place. Again, Canada must have special rate agreements with countries like France and Portugal and eastern European countries.

This article isn't specific to Canada and Europe, but it does outline reasonably well how rates are arrived at for incoming international mail.

If you're buying smaller items from Europe, they're likely being shipped as oversized letters. Those same items would likely be considered parcels if they were shipped within Canada and the rate structure for parcels is completely different than it is for letters.

About 2 weeks, but seller warned me it could take 3-4 months. I paid CAD$16 registered mail.

About 2 weeks,
Mark the last estimated date for arrival on your calendar.
You have 30 days from that date to open an eBay dispute for non-delivery in the Resolution Centre at the bottom of this page.
seller warned me it could take 3-4 months.
More fool him. If he cannot prove DELIVERY (not shipping, delivery) he loses the Dispute and you will be refunded your payment.
Do NOT accept an offer of a replacement. It won't arrive either or will be well past the Dispute period if it does.
registered mail.
More fool him. Registered Mail is not tracked outside the borders of the originating postal service.
If you are a very nice and trusting person who waits beyond the eBay window, you should know that you are also covered by Paypal for up to 180 days from payment.
Unfortunately, if the item is late (more than the 30 day window allowed by eBay) and turns out to be unsatisfactory, Paypal insists you pay for return shipping before refunding. This can cost $40 or more with useful tracking (Tracked Packet International).
You should also know that if you are refunded and the item finally turns up and is actually acceptable, you can return the refund using Paypal's Send Money service.
