one time seller

I am a one time seller of an expensive office desk/hutch system worth approximately $1,500 (new $6,000). Would sell for $700 - $800 but Ebay won't let me ask more than $500 per month. I guess you have to be a regular retail or wholesaler to sell on Ebay.

No you don’t. You just have to sell a few smaller things to establish yourself.

You have not yet established yourself as a seller on eBay= eBay has listing limits/ restrictions/payment holds applicable to all new sellers.

Shipping for that  could be expensive.  Have you tried to sell it locally?

Yes, I've got it listed as pickup, so it will be local.

I understand. Ebay just isn't the way to go for large, one time sells like this. I used Craigs List before, but there were scam artist run amuck on that.

That's what eBay's restrictions , on buyers and sellers, are meant to prevent.

For example, the Managed Payments system may block scammers who have been setting up new accounts willy-nilly or hijacking abandoned ones.

And the QR code service for Local Pickup protects buyers from claims that they have not paid.
